So I started working on the bike and I was like F#$% this. I started working on the puter. Yo,... you have to see what I did. LOL.

I wet saned the sides using 800 grit paper. I then took it to the table grinder and buff those mofo's with a 6" cloth wheel and rouge,... and this is what I got!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03441.sized.jpg

IS THIS CRAZY OR WHAT!!! CHECK THAT SHIZZOUT! You see my reflection? No? Just a little?

I have to start filing the second set still:( I'll do that in the morning. I am also going to shine the reservoir bracket too. I am kinda hooked on this polishing thing now :-=-:.

My little basin for wet sanding,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03444.sized.jpg

Where I do my buffing. See the compond I am using. You need that. You cloth wheel will tear itself to pieces without it. Plus,... it wont buff at all.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03445.sized.jpg

See the silver color. Thats the compund mixed with aluminum dust.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03446.sized.jpg

Heres the sanding discs I was telling you about. 3 types,... coarse, medium, and fine. I just got done using the fine.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03447.sized.jpg

Whats left after using the fine disc. I will wet sand some of that and then buff the rest out.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03448.sized.jpg

Wet sanding,... dirty dirty.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03449.sized.jpg

ALL DONE! SO HOT!

See the reflection. so cool.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03451.sized.jpg

I am going to do the reservoir bracket first thing in the morning. After that I will starting cutting out the inner shields. I was doing some thinking while working today and decided that i will also buff the aluminum front panels to a mirror shine too. This way it will do just that, act as a mirror so that the uv green panels will shine alot bright behind the tinted black. All the light from the front LEDs and Uv green panels will be reflected out the front of the case. I think it would be sweet!

Update,............................... again. Check it out.

First,....BAAM! Instant,... new reservoir bracket! I didnt take pics of my doing it because after reading this entire log you should all know by know how I did do it. CHECK IT OUT!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03452.sized.jpg

What a pain it was polishing this thing. It was bending all over the place. Anyways,... I can see myself in it so I aint complaining.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03453.sized.jpg

Now,... originally it was that plain flat arm. I knew there was something that needed to be done at the time I finished making it intially but I was sure. I didnt wan tot cut anything out of it because it would weaken it. I decided that was a crock and start thinking. I wsa going to to cut out 4 total grooves but I didnt because it would look just like the clamp itself. I needed something different that would separate the arm from the clamp,......... so I only made two grooves, lol. Moving on. It looks sweet though right? Kinda like it was meant to look like that. Crappy pic though,... it's all dirty from touching it. Anyways.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03454.sized.jpg

Installed. HOT! I love it!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03455.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03456.sized.jpg

Friggin sweet! Gawd.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03457.sized.jpg

Ok,... so now thats done its time for the nner shields. This is my goal, as you already know.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03458.sized.jpg

Because the size of this piece doesnt have to be all that precise,... I'm just going to use the model to sketch out all the pieces on the aluminum I will cut.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03459.sized.jpg

Using my trusty scroll saw,... I cut right up on the line,.... which was actually something I didnt want do but at the same time I did. Heres why,... cutting right up on the line will save time when filing but when it comes time to sandwich them all together to be filed, what a pain! I couldnt line them up right because I was afraid one would be off and once done filing I would find a flat spot on one of the pieces because it never met the file. Tip,... cut close to the line but give yourself enough slack so you can sandwich them together reall quick without having to wrry about one being off.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03460.sized.jpg

Here are the pieces already sandwiched and I just got done filing the flat sides of the pieces. I'm checking to make sure I filed fairly straight, which I did,... of coarse >-|.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03461.sized.jpg

Heres all four pieces filed to their general shape.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03462.sized.jpg

Here I removed the bolts, and cleaned them up with a air grinder. This time I will draw on each piece and cut and file one at a time seeing its faster that way. Here kinda like what they will look like when bolted to the pumps. Except these pieces will be rounded, bent over a pipe. That goign to to be a pain! I see it now.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03463.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03464.sized.jpg

I quit a bit earlier then usual so I can sleep. Seeing that I am goignto draw on all 4 pieces I know that if I did that now I wouldnt get to cut any of them. So I'll take them to work with me and draw on them when I am not busy. So when I get home I can start cutting and filing first thing. I cant wait to bend these and shine them up. It's goign to look sweet with the lit up UV green accent pieces! Can't wait! PEACE!

Tribal, if I didn't know better, I would swear those alum pieces were chrome plated. Aweome work, can't wait to see more!

Nope,... no chrome. Just a good polishing. I use to do it all the time in machine shop a long time ago.

@ underrated - Well,... I am trying to get this puter done as fast as possible without skipping to much detail. I'm trying add as much detail as possible without it taking to long. It's just that everything takes time. I want to do it right so that it looks good. If I half ass something to save time it will wil be eating at me and it will never go away. As some of you stated,... i am a perfectionist. It is definately a good thing but at times,... it can be bad. Sometimes I wish I could just settle,... but I can't. It's an illness. It's just that once I'm done doing something and it's perfect,... I get so excited over it that I have to do it again. I love that feeling to much and this is why I will always be a perfectionist. I am working on this thing almost everyday. Right now,... I am in the hardest stage of the project. After this stage,... it will be electronics, wiring, light fab work, adjusting, and configuring. This stage will be fairly quick. I am going to be skipping alot of my ideas I had planned. The reason being that I want this case to be upgradable. I dont want to make something so specific that if I was to upgrade, I would no longer be able to use it. Or is I was to make something that would keep me from being able to add more stuff to the puter. So,... I am definately goign to save time there. I'm think that it will be done soon. Keep your shorts on.

Ummm,... I lost track. I spent several thousand intially on all the computer harware including the monitor. Then I spent more on more computer hardware. I spent like 500+ for water cooling stuff. I got the VFD and accessories for like 300 something. The LCD was like 50, router kit was 100, 100 fro the UV green acrylic, 60 for the tinted. I spent alot on miscellaneous stuff too like wood, pipes, plumbing stuff for the rads, spacers, alot of nuts and bolts, aluminum rods and tubes, I got an orbital sanding, I got tons of sanding discs, LEDS, LED holders, clear coat,... theres alot. I really dont care that I spent that much. It was through a long period. It wasnt like I dropped all that money all at once. I can'/t even tell you how much though.

Yeah your right. I'm thinking the same thing when I'm modding. (Even I'm a beginner on this)

You shuold be glad that your in the US.. Here in Norway I have to pay at least twice the prices that you have there! Bought a pice of acrylic yesterday. 50 by 50 cm.. paid aprox 50$ for it...

(And I've messed it up today and have to buy anotherone.. :p

@ sloth_99 - I am most likely goingto try something else. It's just that I want to be able to see through the bracket which means I would have to cut away any material. It's kinda hard because the grooves are narrow:( I thought about using some gasket maker which will end up a rubbery. I could smear it on nice and even and thin. Then once it dried,... just away the gooves.

@ Xbrid - Thanks.

@ thephreak99 - thats sucks! 50$ for 50 x 50cm? Damn. And you messed it up! DAAAAMN. You should practice on something cheaper first:)

UUUUUUUUUPDATE.

I center punched all the areas that I have to cut out. This way the drill bit doesnt run around. It is very important that I punch the very center. I dont want to drill pst any of the lines, that could screw up the piece. Seriously.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03469.sized.jpg

Here are two of them all drilled out and ready to cut.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03470.sized.jpg

Now,... I waisted a ton of time today looking for my scroll saw blades. I couldnt find them ANYWHERE! I think I threw them out by mistake. Anyways,... I hade to go to the store to get more. I got these spiral blades which cut in all directions. They are good for exactly what I plan on using them for,... cutting out shapes.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03471.sized.jpg

Here is the second piece almost done. I only got two of them done today. I was kinda slacking offfff,........................... SPONGE BOB! What did I say!!!! No calling for help! Damnit,... don't you ever listen? I'm gettin plankton on your ass now,...

OK,... HERE IT IS IN ALL IT"S GLORY!!! It's not done but still,... it is friggin COOL!

Here I have an inner shield in the vise so I can file the designs out.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03481.sized.jpg

Here are all the pieces filed down and sanded. I am now ready to bend them.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03482.sized.jpg

Again, here is the prototype and the bend I need to accomplish.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03483.sized.jpg

This is th epipe I am going to use to bedn the pieces. The pipe radius is the same as the radii of the case corners.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03484.sized.jpg

See how it fits nicely:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03485.sized.jpg

Now,... a good thing is that when I first tried bending aluminum I hd scoured a straight line from one side of the pipe to the other. I used this line to line up the aluminum for the bend. Well,... it didnt work because it was hard as heel to line up the aluminum and keep it on the line. Anyways,... I am going to use this line once again to bend these pieces. This tim eI have a VISE to help me.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03486.sized.jpg

Now,... both sides of the piece needs to be straight. Only the mid section needs to be bent. What I will start bending from the opposite side where the bolts go. I do this because I can stop bending when I get to that side, that means that side will be straight because I didnt bend it. The other side that I started bending from will be bent. It needs to be somewhat straight too. I can easily bend it back some to straighten it out. So I have to line up the side opposite of where the bolts go, with the line on the pipe.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03487.sized.jpg

I will then tape the piece to that line to make it easier when clamping it down in the vise.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03488.sized.jpg

I cut a new piece of angled aluminum to go in the vise with the piece to protect it from having the pattern of the jaws imprinted on it. This angled aluminum is slightly shorter then the inner shield itself. I did this so I can see if the piece is on the line. Heres one side lined up,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03489.sized.jpg

Heres the other side,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03490.sized.jpg

Once I have the pipe and piece clamped down tight,... using a piece of wood and a hammer I begin hammering away. You have to hammer from where the piece is clamped down and out. Dont start anywhere else because it wont bend around the pipe. It will kind of fold ontop of it. I have to be careful to make sure I hammer this piece evenly from one side to the other. Some of the areas are weaker then others and therefore will try and fold rather then bend nicely. Any folding can be easily tpped out using a small hammer.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03492.sized.jpg

This is what you should get when done.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03493.sized.jpg

Looks good but not perfect yet.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03494.sized.jpg

Heres why,... see the side of the piece closet to the barbs? It's round, needs ot be more straight. Also,... by the bolts, it's hard to see in the pic but its a bit round there too. The closest edge to the camera or the outline of the piece is round so it may look as if my bend is more round then it really is.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03495.sized.jpg

Heres after fixing it.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03496.sized.jpg

This is more like it. That once edge there by the barbs needs to be straightened out a bit more. It looks dented. but you get the idea.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03497.sized.jpg

Heres a preview with the prototype side.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03498.sized.jpg

Now,... theres a problem. The UV accents are pretty much the same shape as the aluminum pieces. The UV accents get bolted along with the aluminum pieces. Now,... the problem,... the UV accents for the inner shields are going to go under the aluminum pieces. I fI bolt it along with the aluminum the aluminum pieces will be pushed 1/8" away from the center. Which means the middle or vertical gap will be 1/4" larger then I want it to be. It will be larger then the horizontal gap. I need to figure out how I will fasten the UV accents. Anways,... WHAT DO YOU THINK!!! COOL EHH???

Quick update because I got to go,...

Here I'm going to cut the UV equivalents. I'm going to to do it the same way I cut most of my plastic. Thats because it works so well:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03520.sized.jpg

Here's one done. Perfect.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03519.sized.jpg

Here are all of them done.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03521.sized.jpg

Drilling the mounting holes. Dont forget to brace the back of the acrylic piece with some wood so you dont crack the holes at the rear. You can use a little bit of grease too.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03516.sized.jpg

Absolutely done. Damn thats cool.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03523.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03524.sized.jpg

Ok,... check this one out. This is how I am goign to incorporate the computers name. I am going to cut "BLACKOUT" out of the remaining black aluminum from when I cut out my windows from the cases side panel. Then I will cut a UV green equivalent and then light it the hell up! It's going to behind the mobo tray. I think it would lok smokin behind the tinted window!!!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03525.sized.jpg

I was not able to make the inner shield equivalents because I didnt know how to. But I now what I have to do and how to do it now so tomorrow I will do that. It is hard as hell though. I really hate bending acrylic!

[DGN]Nexus
08-20-2005, 06:48 PM
I wouldn't worry about bending the acrylic for the curved pieces. It looks freakin awesome with just the two UV reactive pieces on either side of the pump. It'd be overkill(pun intended) to bend acrylic for theother part of the shield.

Also, I hope you didn't mount those pieces to the metal because it wont work if they are all on the same side. Two of them need to be ont he left and two on the right side of the shield.

I got it! I got it to work!!! I am most likely going to go with my original plans of using the two little bolts to hold the plastic to the shields. 08-22-2005, 05:53 PM
IT'S HERE!!! LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!! I PRESENT TO YOU,... MY PUMP SHIELDS!!! There's 36 pics:D Thi sis like 2 days worth of pics. Anyways,... lets get to it.

Even though I already tried this the first time and failed,... I tried it again and it work great! I was tired as hell and was rushing. Thats why it didnt work the first time. Anyways,... I cut a piece of green just big enough for the piece. I heated it so it was flexible and then put it on the pipe. I bent it around the pipe a bit and then heated it some more. Once hot enough I pressed a shield over it. I was wearing gloves and had a towel over it. It gets hot as hell. So it molded just fine. The edges bowed up but thats ok seeing they are getting cut off.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03526.sized.jpg

Once I had all 4 formed, I taped them up and traced the shields on them. I sent them through the scroll saw cut away most of the excesss.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03527.sized.jpg

All four pieces trimmed to their general size.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03528.sized.jpg

I used a belt sander that I had upside down. Instant table sander:) I ground away the rest of the excess to its absolute size. This worked very well. I originally started using the hand file .
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03529.sized.jpg

Also,... I knifed the edges too. There were certain mentions of these panels being to much. So I decided to not the the edges of the aluminum shields glow. So, I knifed the edges so you wouldnt see anything around the edges at all. Plus it made it alot easier to fit them once moutned to the pumps.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03530.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03531.sized.jpg

Perfect!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03532.sized.jpg

Gawd, how cool. It makes me think of filling or something. I dont know. Weird.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03533.sized.jpg

Only the designs should glow.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03534.sized.jpg

PERTY! This is with the tape on! This is why I diffused the acrylic. It lights up so much more easier now.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03535.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03537.sized.jpg

Now,... it's time for mounting holes. I taped off the aluminum shields to keep from damaging them.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03538.sized.jpg

I used a piece of cardboard to make my marks, professinal huh? LOL.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03540.sized.jpg

After I drilled the aluminum shields I did the Uv ones.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03541.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03542.sized.jpg

Diffused the UV shields. I left a nice coarse diffuse too using coarse sadn paper. I sanded all in one direction. I think it looks nice and it helps to capture the light really well.

Check this out,... this is what the name of the case is going to look like. Actually it's going to look better:D

It's going to go on the back of the mobo tray towards the top, staring out through the window. Each letter will be cut as a separate pieces. Each letter will have a UV green equivalent to give the letter it's glow. The letters will be cut out of the remaining black lian-li aluminum from when I installed the case windows. It will give it an extra dark look to it. Plus I need something to do with that aluminum. Cant let it go to waiste.

Not really an update,... more like a concept. Here is what I have planned for my buttons.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03581.sized.jpg

As you can see the buttons will be flush with the outer most surface. The buttons in the diagram are 1-way buttons. These will be used mostly for the VFD also fo rthe power on for the computer. 2-way switches will use the same design but I have a feeling there will need to be some tweaking. The bottom drawing that I commented on,... with the 2 bars passing through the button backing,... this is something I might have to do to keep the buttons from being pushed inside the computer. Something like it,... not saying I will be doing that. Point is, something might have to be done. I need some 2-way switches that have very little switch travel. Anyone reccomend anything? I will be looking tonight while at work. Also,... Once I am done wokring on the pump tower, it will be time to do some more cutting up of the case itself. That middle level floor thing,... something has to be done with it. I have several ideas. If you are lucky I might do some drawing and show you guyz what I have planned. But if I am absolutely sure of what I am going to do I wont. I want to surprise you guyz. Also,... in a desperate attempt to get my gurl into modding,... she will be helping me tomorrow. She is going to start making the compters name. I am kind of nervous about it,... I am the kind of person where it's not done right unless I do it so I will be watching closely. Anyways,... Till then.

(Hadn't seen the abbreviation VFD before, so I googeld it:
"VFD: Therapeutic feed additive which can only be purchased and used in feed with a veterinarian's prescription"
"VFD: Variable Frequency Drive. The drives for the Bottle Washer and the Tunnel Pasteurizer are all of this type."

But I found the right wone. ;)

Some stuff I removed from the case. I told you guyz I did some thinking and this is one of the many things I have figured out. I didnt like that I was going to have to pass the hoses and wires through the floor through holes so I just flat out got rid of it. I had some ideas to make the passing of the hoses and wires through the floor look good but I wasn't 100% about it.

I did this to open up the area in front of the HDD's and the PSU area. You know what,... I'm going to tell you guyz now. There are going to be more shields. Lots more. Theres most likely going ot be two for each HDD rack. The PSU is going to have like,... 4 - 6 of them? Not sure yet. Plus it whill have a panel ontop where all the hose will pass through. The MOBO will have it's own shileds too. The shields will be the equivalent of a mobo cover. Except all my shields will be adjustable so your can reposition them if I should get another mobo or install some more PCU cards, whatever. There might be another shield or shields covering whats inside the 5.25" bay above the drives. Will see. Oh,... there might be some kind of cover for the back of the HDDs too. Let me know what you think? OH,... LOL. Once more thing. I have changed my plans for the front of the computer. Instead of just installing the UV green panels behind the tinted. Theres one more thing going in there first. A thin sheet of aluminum with the usual suqares and grooves. There will be one for ecah panel I put in there. They will all be different. They will also be designed in a way so you can tell its a panel instead of just some glowing boxes and grooves. Now you guyz know what I have planned for you all. STAY TUNED!!!! MUH HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Todays update,...

Time to work on the pump tower. I need to do some cutting with the scroll saw but the tower is kinda to tall for it. So I'll cut from the inside. I need to raise it a bit to clear the top saw arm. I clamped these boards to the saw table. I'm going to cut just enough to get the jig saw blade in there. I cant see the designs from this side of the tower. I am basically going to cut away the gap between the holes.

After scroll and jig sawing. I filed away and this is what I got. It's a start.

I perfrom the same thing for the rest of the stuff on this side of the tower. It needs something else though.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03605.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03606.sized.jpg

Ahh, thats better. I decided to add a big hole. LOL. It had to be somewhat bigger then the other holes/ grooves to even it out a bit.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03607.sized.jpg

Now, real quick,... tell me what you think of this. Instead of using grommits I thought I would use this foam. The reason being,... it's a hell of alot cheaper, and it doesnt take up as much space as a grommit would. This means I could put the hoses closer together. I know whether or not I will use this idea, I'm just curious as to what you guyz think about it.

Heres a big jump. I kinda forgot to take pictures:( But it's stuff you already seen me do. Recognize the window? Its the same window I used in the LED cover. I have to incorperate that window somewhere else. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity. Why? Don't you think it would be sweet with the UV blue coolant tube lit up over that what will be a UV green lit up window? I think it's gonna look sweet! The two colors ontop of each other. Hell yeah.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03613.sized.jpg

See the three holes? The big one is for a chrome shower hose which will power the radiator housing. The two smaller ones are for therad housings LED wires.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03614.sized.jpg

Pump tower and LED cover. GAWD,... it was so much easier this time cutting the window. Thanks to the scroll saw.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03615.sized.jpg

The window isn't done as you can see. It needs some filing. I also have some more designs to draw out and cut. I will finish it tomorrow and then move on to something else. I'm going to sleep now,... have to go to work in a couple of hours. Goodnight :tired:.

I like ur work with the right tools ur quite an artist. As for the foam tho I dont think you're happy with it or you wouldnt have asked out opinion. Since you are moddign a case for asthenics I say gromets are far more appealing to the eye.

Also is that conduit(is that right?) or what I kno that orac 3 used shower hose but that stuff looks shiney in the pictures..doesnt look like shower hose and yea Id just liek to know what you're using id like to get some :)

I am actually for the foam. But it's one of those IFFY things, you know? The only reason it's IFFY is because of the split. STARBUCK mentioned the use of heatshrink over the foam. I am going to do that. About the grommits,... if you check, the largeer the ID is the larger the OD is. The grommits I would need have total diameter thats huge! I need these hoses close together. Also,... for as many as I need, it would cost a pretty penny. I still need like a ton of RCA plugs and jacks, the metal ones. I also need switches, and wire. Oh and the shower hose I have is shower hose. Pretty much the same as what was used in the ORAC3. It's like $10 for one shower hose, which is like 3+ feet? Maybe 4.

Are you doing green UV inside the pump tower? If so, it might be a bit too much of the green, you will lose definition. You may want to go with a blue or red UV on the tower, to help differentiate the parts.

Just my $.02, of course.

I finished legos windows for his rad box. These little buggers are perfect.I'll hate to see them go.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03623.sized.jpg

I sanded the tower don to it's dust finish. I dont know if its the light or what but it lokos like I have to do a bit more sanding on the side there.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03624.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03625.sized.jpg

Time to make to UV green insides. I just got down cutting a 7" wide piece off.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03626.sized.jpg

The piece that will go inside the tower.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03627.sized.jpg

I rounded the edges to save time from doing it later by hand. I will still have to round them some more but atleast the most of it is done already. I round the edges for a better fit and so that you cant see glowing edges around the object the UV green is behind.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03628.sized.jpg

I needed a bending surface so I decided to bend this sheet metal over the edge of the table. After I was done I realized that it wasnt long enough for the piece I was bending. I can see still use it for bending other pieces. I just kept hitting it with a hammer. I clamped a board to the top of the sheet to keep it straight and to keep the metal from bowing up.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03629.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03630.sized.jpg

Well,... seeing that I cant use the sheet metal I have no choice but to use the edge of the table. Which is fine. Here I am sanding down the table so it's smooth and clean. This orbital sander has to be one of my favorite tools. It's does such a good job!

So,... I have good news. Bill Owens from WWW.MNPCTECH.COM is giving me replacment fan grills to replace the cheap crppy wire ones I was going to be using. They are new in design and not finished. He said the they will be done in about 2 - 3 weeks maybe sooner. He's going to be sending me like 5 of them, the 120mm versions:) You can see them here:

http://mnpctechcom.temp.powweb.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=272&cat=555

All I have to say about them is WOW, friggin WOW. Let me tell you,... I dont really go all out with fan grills, hence the crappy ones I was going to use. I'm not into the grills with the crazy designs. I like simple and sexy, to the point. Bill friggin nailed it with these grills! GAWD. I am going to use four of them under the radiator housing for the 120mm fans in there. I am also goign to use one in the back of the case. I really would like to add another fan to the case but I'm sure if thats going to happen. There is going to be one 120mm fans just for the PSU. I might add one of those grills to that fan and design around it. I think I am going to do that, Seriously. He is also sending me some U-Channel trim mold in hopes that it will work with the holes for the hoses. I was going to use the foam before but I wasn't 100% with that idea, niether were you guyz. Someone told me to try the trim mold Bill has for sale on his site here:

http://www.mnpctech.com/UChannel.html

Usually it's used for more open edges but I really need something other then a grommet to cover up the edges of my holes. I dont know how well it will work inside a holes this small. Knowing this Bill was still kind enough to send me some:) Thanks Bill! I had come up with the idea of having a sponsor or a "special thanks to" plate on the computer. It will most likely be a piece of acrylic cut to a nice rectangular shape. I will engrave any sponsors I have on it. Once done I will light it up. I think I'll do something like this:

______________________

Special Thanks to:

Bill Owens

You think I should have "special thanks to" or "sponsors"? I dont know, I'll figure that out later. I cant wait to get home so I can work on the UV green insides.

SURPRISE!!!! It's an update!!! Kind of!!! Check it out,...

Heres what I did yesterday. I started bending the UV green inside.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03650.sized.jpg

The the gap in the corner that wa kind of bothering me. I'm ok with it now. You cant tell once it's diffused.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03651.sized.jpg

Got this the other day to cut away the bend line so the edge of the bend won't be so round. I'm not going to do that anymore. I'm going to use it for engraving now:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03653.sized.jpg

All done,... but to short. As I said in my last post,... some how it shrunk. So I will flattent his out and use it for one of the other covers.

My first engraving. It's pretty cool. I am really going to enjoy doing it more.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03668.sized.jpg

Here I'm bending the tower insert. I did it while it's lit up like that. Pretty cool beans. It took me to attempts to get it right. Well,... I got the first bend right, I mean you cant really mess hat up. Its the second bend that was off a bit. I could barely get the insert inside the tower. I flattened it out and did it again. I nailed it the second time.

So I went to my profile and posted my signature again. I then get a PM from this admin guy that said that I posted my sig again even though he said it was to long. If I do it again he will probably suspend me! Then he replaced my sig with some crap liek tribaloverkill's sig was owned by whatever his name is. Having a sign to long and is a capital crime and will be punished! I sent him a pm back with the sig rule. The sig rule says that the sig has to be within a reasonbale length! There was no specific number! I told him to grow because of the stupid message he left me and that wsa it,... he suspended me. So,... I am totally done with that forum. My log over ther is dead. You see,... this is the same thing that happened over at that other site,... the one that said that I had to deem them as my home in order to post my log there. This is even worse! 201 characters! Small update. I finished sanding the inside of the UV insert for the tower. I then got started on the reservoir. Check it out,...

Here I mapped out two more holes. One is going to be for an UV LED and the other for a dallas 1-wire temp probe.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03688.sized.jpg

This is what I want to accomplish for the UV LED and temp probe.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03689.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03690.sized.jpg

I was going to use a larger one as seen in this pic but I decided to use the samller one because it's SEXXXXXXY.

Reservoir: $20
Barb: $1
Modifying the barb making it a tap: Priceless:)
Touching the barb right after grindingit and burning the crap out of your fingers: Even more priceless:)

Yo,... after drilling my holes in the reservoir I needed to tap it so I can screw in my little barb things. I didnt have a tap that size and it was to late to go to the store. So I made my own:) I basically made two cut perpendicular to each other. I ground the grooves open a bit and that was it. I used a bit of lube and it worked like a charm! This is the small one.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03694.sized.jpg

This is the large one. I made this one first. I change my mind shortly after and went to the small one.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03695.sized.jpg

Here are some practice taps.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03696.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03697.sized.jpg

Heres proof that it works. It scraps as it goes around and around. The acrylic that is cut goes inside the barb. I reccomend that you turn a bit and then turn it back a bit. Keep doing that until you made it all the way through. And use some sort of lube. That is a must!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03699.sized.jpg

Heres the finished product. Notice the elbow. I cleaned it up so it actually looks nice:)

Looks like I have to do some desoldering to get the power connector and switch out.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03710.sized.jpg

I got the power connector free. Now it's time for the switch.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03712.sized.jpg

Quick question,... You see the two big globs at the bottom. The one on the left is touching the two little pins and the one on the right is not. Does this matter? I dont think it does but what do I know:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03713.sized.jpg

Removed.

Is it me is this some sloppy soldering?
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03715.sized.jpg

Here I am going to cut out the bottom the case inside the taped area.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03716.sized.jpg

Done. I cut it out because I am going to mount a bracket plate there. Surprising enough,... the case is still sturdy and this is without the sides on:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03717.sized.jpg

PSU mounting plate cut to size.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03718.sized.jpg

This is where it's going to go. Now,... I think I might raise it up off the bottom of the case using a couple of washers. This way air can get out through there. Either that or I will drill holes or cut grooves in the plate where there is free space.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03719.sized.jpg

This is how I will probably have it arranged.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03720.sized.jpg

The Traces (the large dark blue areas around the pins) look fine, It just looks like they were not taking any chances and Over soldered everything. It is done sometimes on High load devices (one that may get hot enough to start making thin solder go to the plastic level (plastic is a pliable state just prior to melting))

If it was a Refub you would have a lot of cooked flux near the solder joints there is none in the pic that I could see and there is no dark spots on the board. I'd say it's fine they just went overboard soldering.

Here's how I think I will mount my PSU. I like it but seems bit much. The thing is I to upgrade easily. This design will aloow that so I think I'm all for it. I still havent drawn up a plan for the other ares of the PSU because I had a busy night. I am going to do it now. Let me know what you think.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03723.sized.jpg

The arms dont lift. All the pieces have square edges unlike the reservoir arm which lifts. These stay flat against the bracket and only do two things,... slide around on the bracket, slide back and forth(the extension arm), and turn. It will be very strudy although it doesnt really matter because we're talking about a PSU here.

Small update. I didnt finish the PSU mounting plate. I finished most of it, I just didnt drill the hole to mount the mounting plate. I think I have to sand it some more, I think I lefted some spots. I was kind of rushing:) To the pics,...

This is what I WAS going to use as power rails for my PSU and all it's sleeved power wires. I was informed by another member(Starbuck3733T) that it might not be thick enough for that much juice. Thanks for looking out after my PSU starbuck . I am going to use a thicker copper pipe. I'm going to most likely smash it and then fold it,... then smash it some more! The idea is to achieve a nice thick strip. More on that when I get to it. Moving on,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03721.sized.jpg

Heres all of them cut out and ready for filing:(
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03726.sized.jpg

Done! Wow,... that was some fast filing! Whoa. I saned too! I'm fast:D It's looks just like the drawing:D Well,... except the middle track is shorter. I decided to make is shorter because it doesnt need ot be so long. Plus when its long like that it weakens the plate alot! I could fold it in half if I kept that track long.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03728.sized.jpg

This is where its going to go. I think I will raise it up off the case with wsahers though as I said before. Looks sweet. Can't wait to make the arms tomorrow:)

Here are the two bus bars side by side. The larger bus bar just like the small one was a pipe. I flattened them out. The larger pipe I had to fold one flattened because it was to wide. Now that I folded it after flattening it,... it's even thicker.

tribaloverkill

You didnt miss anything. I am just experimenting with these. I will bw working with them one the PSU is mounted and covered. They are bus bars. Ther will be like three of them. One for 12v, 5v, and ground. I will take all of the 12v wires off the PSU and solder them to one of the bars. The same goes for the 5v and ground wires. I will then solder all my peripheral wires to the bars. You know,... the the wires with the molexs that power you say dvd drives. Well I am making my own custom PSU panel using the chrome shower hose. The panel will have holes in which the hose will pass through. I will fasten the hose so it cant be pull back out. The wires will pass through the hoses and get soldered to the right bus bars. It makes everything look nice neat. This will be done later though.

So,... I got my package from Bill Owen from WWW.MNPCTECH.COM and I opened after noticing that the bag weighed more then I thought it would. I am going to have to watch myself with these things. If I wasn't at work right now I would be home cutting something with these things, LOL. Also,... the trim molding, it very nice! For some reason I didnt picture it to look like this. I mean even though I saw it in a picture on his site it's hard to really grasp what it looks liek until you ave it in your own two hands. I thought for some reason it would be bulky, a true eye sore. But's its actually thin and sleek. I like it! I haev to see if it will fit in my little holes. if I doesnt I will trim some of the width and then try again. I hope it fits. It's nice:( We'll see in the morning. The cable clamps,... Wow, Tribal. That's a very clever idea. It took me a second to see where you were going with these, but now I can't wait to see how you pull it off.

You're a big inspiration to me, you've shown me that a lot of this stuff is very possible, given the right imagination and determination. I'm closing on a house with a great big garage very soon, and will have at least six weeks of remodeling to do before we can move in (the place is trashed, but cheap). Once we're established, I'm going to be doing a few mods myself, and to be honest, I don't think I ever would have considered it were it not for you, Paul, Defyant and a couple others.

Keep up the great work, and keep updating!

Ok,... the universal mounting plate is pretty much finished. Check it out.

First,... I got my stuff from Bill over at WWW.MNPCTECH.com. What a nice guy. I only asked for the U-Channel Trim (http://www.mnpctech.com/UChannel.html) and sent me this other stuff too. I need you guyz to pay a visit to his site for me. I would really appreciate it. He has some really nice shizz over there! Swear! He sent me the U-Channel Trim (http://www.mnpctech.com/UChannel.html), some Large Reinforced Cutting Discs (http://www.mnpctech.com/Discs.html), and some Small and Large Cable Clamps (http://www.mnpctech.com/CableClamp.html)! Thanks Bill!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03733.sized.jpg

Heres the U-Channel Trim (http://www.mnpctech.com/UChannel.html) I asked for. Its better then I thought it would be. For some reason I thought it would be cheesy but it's not! It's nice. It's thin. It's sleek unlike grommets which I think are bulky as hell.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03734.sized.jpg

Here's the U-Channel Trim (http://www.mnpctech.com/UChannel.html) I stuffed into the holes that are going to be used by the hoses. It's obivous the hole are to small for the U-Channel Trim (http://www.mnpctech.com/UChannel.html).
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03735.sized.jpg

So I cut some of the width away so it would bend more easily without flaring out,... as much. This is what I got. If I was to use it I woudl ahve to super glue it to the hole becase it kept trying to creep out. When you cut away the width it, the chaanel is smalled therefore it wont hold to the hole as well. So I kinda decided not to use it for these holes. I am going to use it somewhere else.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03736.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03737.sized.jpg

Instead I am going to use the foam except this time I modified it a bit. I cut awa some of the height and glue the foams edges together to form a ring. I placed it in the hole and then smashed the hose through the hole. It came out great. It reall seals off the hose well.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03738.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03739.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03740.sized.jpg

Now,... to the PSU mounting plate. I had a vision of what I wanted to use to hold the PSU to the plate and this vision started with this,... some arms. Very narrow, only 3/8". I didnt want them to be to wide because that would the PSU would be mounted high off the plate. These little pieces although only1/16" thick are strong enough to take on what i have planned for them.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03741.sized.jpg

Here are the arms with the tiny angled brackets.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03742.sized.jpg

This is what i was shooting for when I realized it was dumb. a stupid idea. There's just to much,... to many little pieces. I need something that is simpler and even stronger! Because you cant go wrong with having to much strength:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03743.sized.jpg

Here are the new arms. Well,.. they will be arms. These strips are a 1/2" wide.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03744.sized.jpg

Bending with a screw driver? What could I be doing?!?!?!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03746.sized.jpg

Remember always make sure that whatever you are bending is straight with whatever you are using to make the bends.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03747.sized.jpg

Friggin ROCK! Yeah! One piece! WHOS THE MAN! LOL. I ahev to cut away some of the length still.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03748.sized.jpg

This was cool. I took these screws and put them in the drill measuring how far they were in the drill. I then spun the screws and with a file I ground away the thread under the head so the screws would slide nicely throughout the grooves of the plate.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03749.sized.jpg

Done! I used mobo offsets on the arms to offest the PSU from the arms. I drilled small holes and just screwed them in using a bit of permanent locktight so they dont loosen. The middle arm is a brace for the center of the PSUs PCB.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03750.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03751.sized.jpg

Mounted.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03756.sized.jpg

Now, after all that,... I figured out a faster and easier and smoother design for the mounting system. I wish I friggin did it this way because it would of saved me so much time!!! It would of been easir to mount the PSU and all even though its not all that hard to mount it now. It just would of been smoother looking. Instead of cutting the gates in the plate, I would only cut a groove. The groove would ba as long as the gates but no perpendicular grooves. Then,... I would cut a groove in each arm. That would be it! It would be more adjustable and smoother to adjust too. I am kicking myself right now! Anyways,... this isn't bothering me enough to remake the plate. SoI am going to move on because I have ton of other shizz to make. Let me know what you guyz think.

Mr. Troy,... We are very alike. All durnig my trip I was thinking abuot it, more like eating me. Yes,... I am going to make the revision. I'm doing it because I know I can do better. It shouldnt take that long actually. I will be seeling the one I have now if anyone wants it:) Not only can you mount a PSU to it. You can alos mount a PSONE too:) You can mount pretty much anything to it that can obviously be moutned to it. PM me, first PM first serve.

Boddaker,... the reason behind the PSU plate is because even if I only buy onhe more PSU,... the time it will take me to just mount it as oppose to postioning the new one, redrilling, and then cleaning up. I saved time. I am going ot have this case for awhile. I will end up swappnig the guts out several times.

To everyone else,... YES,... I will be covering up the PSU with shields kind of like the ones for the pumps. I am looking into getting more HDDs so I can complete the shield look. Ummm,... Here's the new plate. Much more simple then the last one. Took a fraction of the time to make.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03757.sized.jpg

Here are som emore sliding bolts. These are easy to make too.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03758.sized.jpg

Here are the new and improved arms. Notice the middle groove and the newer lower profile:) The offsets are screwed into the three layers of aluminum this time instead of the one as per the last ones I made.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03759.sized.jpg

Heres a closer look as to how I did it. As you can see I merely folded the aluminum instead of bending a box as I did the last time. Much stronger this way.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03760.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03761.sized.jpg

My new center support. I found this rubber plug thing and decided to use it. It worked out great!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03762.sized.jpg

The two mounting systems side by side. The newer one makes more sense.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03763.sized.jpg

Here I have the PSU mounted to the new one. As you can its very easily adjusted with the new sliding arms.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03764.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03765.sized.jpg

The PSU sits closer to the plate now. This lower profile might come in handy when designing shields for it.

Center support in action. Works great!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03768.sized.jpg

Inside the case. I did not drill holes yet to mount this thing because I am not sure about shields yet. I just dont want ot start drilling holes for the sake of completing the mount.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03769.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03770.sized.jpg

Now,... the old mounting system. As I said before I am looking to sell it to anyone interested. Here are some pics of how adjustable it is. Here is my PSONE mounted to it. Its not really mounted to it. I merely aligned the arms so that they were directly under and the PSONE's mounting bolts. It fits nicely and totally beats two sided tape:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03771.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03772.sized.jpg

Heres the position of the arms for the PSONE.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03774.sized.jpg

Heres my VFD mounted to it. Again its not really mounted to it, just aligned.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03775.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03776.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03777.sized.jpg

Heres the positiin of the arms for the VFD.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03778.sized.jpg

I'm sure there is more stuff out there that can be mounted to this thing. Just remember that it uses mobo offsets so the tiny bolts are needed for mounting whatever it is your mounting. Tomorrow I can move on,... sweet. Time to design some shields now. I tried last nigth at work but it was busy as hell! I will try again:) Peace.

Hey Tribal,

nice looking Mod you have got there!!!
Anyway, i'm from the Netherlands (Amsterdam to be exact!, friggin cool city) and i check up on your log every day to see if there's any progression. i also saw you're post about the fact that you listen to techno music when you're modding...
As you might know: The top 10 list of world best DJ's is dominated by the Dutch!
so we really have got the best techno / dance / trance etc over here.
over here it is as big as your rap-music over there...
we've got these BIG ( and i do mean BIG: over 40.000 people) raves ( there's even one held in a soccer-stadion!) :D
So if you want to i can sent you some REAL techno, not the one's you guy's got in the states. that's really crapy music...

back on topic:
you really inspired me to begin on my own mod. right now i am drawing a model of my case-mod.
I like your UV Style: it's friggin cool looking!
and your ideas are really innovating.
As we Dutch say: mazzel en laters

Ok,... here's the deal. I know what I have to do now. This is going to shock you but by now you all should be use to that seeing that I tend to do it here and there. I am going to remake,............. the pump shields. No joke. I going to make another set of shields for the pumps. The new version is going to work with cases overall look a bit more then the shields I have now. The reason is that the shields I have now make the pumps look very much like a pillar. It's the way I bent the shields. They look very cool but the look is not working with me. This is why I was having problems designing the HDD and PSU shields. It all boiled down the the pump shields. I need something that looked like them but slightly different. Everything I drew out I didnt like. Why? Becuase I was not 100% satified with the pump shields. Why did I make the pump shields the way I did? Because it made the most sense to make them that way, atleast at the time. The shields work, the look that is. When you look at them you tell yourself, this makes sense. But not for my puter. I need the bend the inner shields the other way. So that they kind of have to shape of the case itself. Once I decided on that,... I drew up planns for the HDDs just like that. I havent drawn anything for the PSU yet, but I know what I want. I have some pics of what I did last nigth at work.

Here's one of the sketches I drew for the HDDs shield style. As yopu can see they look like the pump shields. I dont know why is bothers me that much. I mean I know why but the next style I am about to make,... the pump shields look like the HDD shields but it does NOT bother me. Thats why I dont know why.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03813.sized.jpg

Heres the new pump shields. They look kind of like the other shields but I bent the inner shields horizontally this time, just like the case.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03814.sized.jpg

Here is a general idea of what the HDD shields are going to look like. Ass you can see there are alot of grooves so that the HDDs can breath.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03815.sized.jpg

Heres some explainations. It kind of confusing but the next pic will help you understand what I am shooting for. These drawing are not accurate seeing that I did not have the case in front of me when I was drawing. I have to adjust, alot.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03816.sized.jpg

Heres a blown up pic. You see the side or "wall" with the 80mm built in shroud. Thats the front of the computer. That fan will be blowing back. The other wall or back wall will be solid preventing the hot air from passing over the PSU. The hot air will go through the back of the HDD rack, through the front, and through the bottom of the case by means of the holes that are already there. The middle wall pieces are seperate so the air can flow through. They will be riveted to what left of the second floor of the case. All the walls or sides, whatever,... are goign to be riveted down. Even the the PSU. The PSU will use the same technology. Technology,... hell yea. I'M MAKING TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS HERE!!!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03817.sized.jpg

So yea. Thats what I am going to do. I cant start today but tomorrow is a definate. I will be selling the old pump shields for anyone is is interested. Price unknown. We'll talk. OH,... I am selling my bike. There is suppose to be a guy coming out tomorrow to pick her up. The reason I am doing this is to pay off the loan I took out to get her. I am planning on getting a new car. I will trade my truck in to get it. I am going to get a 2006 Scion xA! Going to uprade her a bit too. The car is kind of ugly stock:) This is what I am shooting for,...

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/myScion1.jpg

OH,... and you know theres going to be a tribalized computer in car project coming up too:) Oh,... and I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to geico!! I saved,... $704!!! Also,... once I take this online defensive driving test,... I save another $70 a year!!!

This is only the inner shield. I have made the sides yet. I probably wont waiste my time making the sides out of card board seeing that I already know what i want, pretty much the same as before. except the sides will have the same contour of the inner but slightly larger. Now,... after making this,... I realized that the shield doesnt really cover the bottom window anymore then the the old ones did. So I think for now I will keep this tower. I'm sure that one day if it starts eating at me the same as it is Dr.Coin :D, I will make another. I like the designs,... If I could change anything there would be a bit less, thats all. I dont like the idea of having the tower plain or with next to no design. Everything that I have made has some sort of design on it. some of the stuff has less design becuase I have to make room for buttons and other stuff. I will make sure that everything evens out at the end. Right now with the tower I am 50/ 50. I cant decide. The only real thing keeping me from making a new one is the fact that it takes time to make this thing. I am going to to fart around and make another inner prototype. I dont know.

haha, nice car man. I just got my first car (I'm 16), I'll post some pictures in the general chat forum. But I'm all for doing stuff to get cheaper insurance, I saved about $170 per year for some corse I did through allstate. Plus another $40 for ABS breaks.

Ok,... instead of making another pump prototype I made an HDD one instead. I think it looks cool. It's very plain as of now but thats ok. I add some design later. But for now,... this is the general shape.

Do you see how they two shields kind of work with each other? I have to tweak the general look of the pump shield though. Eventually they will go together like white on rice. The HDD shield,... I like the general look. It's somewhat simple but effective. A little bit a UV green accents and she'll be done. I might tweak her a bit when creating it out of aluminum. The PSU will be a cross between the two shields. Again,... there are no side shields made and displayed within these photos. Be patient.

OH,... I have some news. Before I go ahead and start doing some real work on the cmputer again. I will be moving all my stuff over to my mothers house and into her garage. It's like three times bigger then what I have now. It will be all mine!!! I have to buy some new tools now seeing that some of the tools I am using do not belng to me. But its ok. I will start this move asap! New pics of my shop soon to come!!!

Dude try geico!!! I saved like 700 dollars by switching to them!!! Then,... check this out,... I got an email from geico justifying why I am paying what I am paying. The reason I am paying what I am paying is because I have some negative stuff on my credit report. They said that if my report was more in my favor I could save more!!! LOL! I was like S#$%,... I'm cool with that:) Evrything is made out of aluminum. Not to hard, jut time consuming. just a bit.

So I went to moms and started cleaning out what will be my new "shop". I removed everything from the garage and moved it all into the shed. I dont want anyone to have any reason to be in there. That portion of the garage is going ot be pad locked. As you can see in the pics it's much larger then what I had before. It's needs some work done to it but not alot. I want to hang more shelves, all new. I have to build a good sturdy shock proof bench. It will be a bit bigger then what I have now. I took a machine shop class in highschool that lasted about a year, maybe more but thats about it. Never took art school or anything like that. Everything I do I thought up myself. Alot of the techniues I use I got from the short time in machine shop and just from using my head. Common sense. If I have a problem I'll sit there and figure it out. When I figure it out I move on. While moving on I am figuring out another way, a better way to do it. If I should figure out a better way I will most likely scrap what I was doing ro done and do it again. I'm nuts when it comes to stuff like that. I am not very good at setting. Most of the tim eit has to be perfect.

About the rims,... you are right:) Kazera KS's. They are fairly cheap, they look great, and they are considerably light!! Alot of cheap 17's are heavier!

Got some more work done on the shop today. I didnt finish even though I was hoping I would but then again I dont know why I thought that seeing that I had plans to coat the tables in polyurethane which take 24 hours to cure,... *breath*. That was a major run-on sentence:) Anyways,.... TO THE PICS!!!!

Poor sponge bob,... LOL. I thought I would bring him to his new torture chamber, ERR, home even though it wasn't done yet and this happens. Before he could even get there,... LOL. Now, let me tell you this,... this was NOT setup. I threw little sponge bob in the back of the truck with resurrected plankton(resurrected plankton? It's my worklog, I can do what ever I want!) and I began driving. Beofre you know it the commpressor fell over. I was like it's empty, oh well, and left it there. When I got there I got out of my truck and glanced over and there he was. LOL. I swear!!! I'm starting to think plankton did it because he was far and clear from it:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03876.sized.jpg

Now,... a couple of guys told me to brace the top because it would eventually warp. They also said to coat it in a polyurethane. Here the big table braced.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03878.sized.jpg

Heres the small table braced.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03879.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03880.sized.jpg

Here they are with a nice thcik coat of polyurethane(oil based). I did under and over the table top. Th eonly thing I did not coat was the legs and lower bracing. They are wet already. It would just hjold in the moisture.

I've been following this worklog a while now, and I'm very impressed by your use of shapes, materials, and textures to achieve the looks you're going for.

As a designer myself, I'm always interested in what inspires people to do what they do...and I'm curious, what inspires you to do the mods you do?

Ok,... so I had plans to work on blackout the other day. I did not get the chance because I realized that the sockets in the garage dont have ground plug holes. So I had to fix/ rewire the garage a bit. By time I got to work on blackout it was all late. Even though I replaced all the sockets it wouldnt have mattered anyways because I was not prepared to work on blackout meaning I didnt plan enough. I had drawn out plans for the shields but I did nothing for the shield walls or mounts. I have to make those first I I know how big to make the HDD shields. If make the HDD shields first and say they are to small or even to big,... I wont be able to mount them. The walls hardly have any room for adjustment so I couldnt move them around to make the slightly off HDD shields fit so they have to be dead on. Now,... I have to temporarily have to remove the HDD racks to mount the walls. Not a problem. One thing that is troubling me is how to mount the shields to the walls. The width of the HDD shields have to be a 1/2" smaller then the length between the walls so aluminum spacers can be used. The question is,... do I want to be able to easily remove the shields? It's not like there is anything behind these shields that I need to access regularly, just HDDs. So I am thinking no. I also have to make the wall furtherest up front an 80mm fan shroud too. So that means I will need a shield or shields for it too. I need an 80mm fan. I have to find one of buy one. I am hoping by time my shift here at work is done that I will have answers for everything. I am brainstorming like crazy right now. I swear my head is smokin,... I am going to get something done tomorrow regardless. I'll start the pump shields if I dont have the HDD stuff figured out. Sorry.

Ok,... here are some better somewhat final shots of the shop. Also,... I have pics of the pump and HDD shields to be. Also,... last night I think I figured out hwo I will mount the HDD shields and work the fan in there to cool off the HDDs. Check it out,...

Put away them nightvision goggles boys,... we have light!

Ok,... break out the nightvision goggles,... we've lost the light, again. Amazing how quickly it gets dark. I would of used the flash but the battery was low and I woldnt be able to finish taking pics. So I broke out my trusty old mag light:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03912.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03913.sized.jpg

Still have some unpacking to do but that can wait(which means it will never get done).
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03914.sized.jpg

The last thing I was doing.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03915.sized.jpg

Here are the new designs I plan on making for the pump and HDD shields.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03919.sized.jpg

Here's how I think I will mount. If it works,... the shields can be swung down to gain access even though it doesnt matter. This way I get to use some more support brackets:) The pic shows 3 I think I am only going to use 2. I think. Not sure. I have to figure out what I am goign to do with the rear shields. I know they are going to be flat because thats all that will fit back there. Well see. So you think it's a go? I think so. Its going to look sick! I have to figure out what to do for the PSU too. Going to the shop now. I'll have more pics by the end of the day. Peace.

So yea,... the HDD shields won't work at all!!! Can you believe that! Check it out,... something, told me to put the drives in the rack today and then fit the shield. Well,.. I did that and learn that the hoses cant make the bend. They will end up all over the acrylic window. This is a bad thing but a god thing too. A bad thing because this means I am being set back a bit further seeing that I have to most likely relocate the HDDs. A good thing because it will solve my PSU shield problem. The PSU shield problem I was having was that I did think the HDD shields and the PSU shield would look good side by side seeing the PSU is wider and therefore the shields wouldnt line up right. It was eating at me and I didnt even make it so I knew that I would have to do something else. Check the pics,....

First,... the pumps. I figured something out today with the pumps that would make the shields look alot better. The one thing I didnt like about the pump shields, the new one that is,... that it look high up off the pump. I know the pump sides would help it out but still,... not alot. So I came up with this,... basically, the pump tower would be deeper and the portion of the pump passing through the tower wouldnt stick out as much. By alot actually. The shields wouldn't look as tall. Now the overall depth(from the mobo tray to the very tip of the suction barb) is still the same, I am just substituting. I know exactly how I plan on mounting the pump and everything. It very easy.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03924.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03926.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03927.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03928.sized.jpg

Now,... as for the HDDs, I am going to make my own HDD rack that will hold 6 HDDs with a little bit more then 1/4" spacing inbetween. The rack will have a dual 80mm fan shroud built on. The rack will be hung from the underside of the 5.25 bay. I am going to either cut away the rest of that second floor or just replace it with another piece of aluminum.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03929.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03930.sized.jpg

I am most likely going to clean this thing up,... it's ugly. I dont like it. I am going to use it to mount a button panel or something of that nature. I might make my own and just replace it. We'll see.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03931.sized.jpg

Mom and the baby. She dont know I took her pic, LOL. So cute. Anyways,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03923.sized.jpg

The cases structural integrity will be comprised once I cut away the rest of that floor. This only means I will have to support the case with my own brackets or something. It's going to look cool but I didnt expect to cut this case up this much, LOL.

tribaloverkill
10-14-2005, 07:16 PM
Ok,... an update! A real one! I mean I actually got work done today! LOL. Check it out,...

Ok,... this is what I am kind of shooting for,... not exactly but in general.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03932.sized.jpg

Gutted out the case big time. Soon,... it's no longer going to be a Lian-Li case. It's going to be a TRIBALOVERKILL case,... which is better. I could of made this case easily. It would of saved me a load of time if I made it myself. I wouldnt have to ponder how to mod something to work,... I could just have made it work from the begining. This is probably going to be the last case and only case I will buy. I'm just going to make my own from now on:)
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03933.sized.jpg

I had to take apart the front of the case to get the front fan shroud out. It's cool how they put this thing together. The outter shell is basically two pieces. You have to compress the case pushing on the top back and lower front to get the pieces to let go of each other. Very cool. This is the new rivet I installed. The original ws flat so I am going to show you a tip on how to flatten them without scratching the case,........ all that much.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03934.sized.jpg

Tape.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03935.sized.jpg

File,.... lightly.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03936.sized.jpg

Done. I could of filed it flatter but I didnt care. It's flat enough.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03937.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03938.sized.jpg

Here I am making the bottom piece for the 5.25" bay. I could of just trimmed th eold one down but I didnt want to do that. This way it will look very fit for it's job. I'm bneding here,... obviously.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03939.sized.jpg

I am bending on some tough @#$ 1/8 aircraft aluminum. See the line I scratched into the piece I'm bending,... I lined it up with the very edge of the aircraft aluminum. If I had my bending brake it would be SOOOOO much easier    .
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03940.sized.jpg

Perfect! Let me tell you,... the dimensions of this piece is so accurate that I swear I was sitting there just looking at it feeling it,... it was so perfect. I did it with a file! LOL. No CNC machines,... a file. LOL. GAWD. Next time I am going to take pictures to show you. It's amazing. Oh,... did I mention that this is my second attempt at this piece today? LOL. I F'ed up the first one by cutting it to short. LOL. I was tired and hungry,... wasnt thinking .
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03941.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03942.sized.jpg

Oh check out my handsome little brother, LOL. I had too. Even sponge bob wanted a piece of this! ZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzzZZZzzzz,..... dude he is out!!!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03943.sized.jpg

Pretty much done. I have to figure out a way of mouting the HDDs. I will most likely make a rack or something that will bolt to this panel.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03944.sized.jpg

HDDs,... I plan on getting,... 4 more 200gb sata's.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03945.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03946.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03947.sized.jpg

The new tower I am going to design is going to be taller so that it reaches from the floor of the case to the ceiling. It will help hold down the mobo tray and give it a somewhat uneven and off look which is going to look good.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03948.sized.jpg

Going to do some more work early in morning tomorrow for a couple of hours. Sunday I wont be abel to do any work on it because I will be doing some OT. If I am not tired on monday I will continue.

Quick update,... I didnt get anything major done today just alot of thinking. I took some pics so you guyz can get an idea of what I am trying to accomplish. Check em out,...

Finished trimming down the 5.25" bay bottom panel. Sexy.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03949.sized.jpg

Here's what I am trying to accomplish. Theres only one HDD in the pic, theres going to be 6.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03950.sized.jpg

Going to install a 120mm fan to the bottom panel here.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03951.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03952.sized.jpg

The fan in the pic above will be bolted to the bottom panel of the 5.25" bay. I thinking about making these bands(2 of them) that will wrap all the way around the HDDs. The HDDs will be bolted the the bands. The band will be bolted to the bottom panel. The 120mm fan thats going under the HDDs will be bolted to the bands. The shields wil be bolted to the bands too. The HDDs will be a pain to get in and out buts thats ok for this computer atleast. I dont think I will go this route just yet. I want to think up another way then choose.

HDD RACK MOCK UP COMPLETE!!! Well,... I didn't make the whole thing, just the top. But hte bottom is pretty much going to be the same and the side are easy to picture. Here it is,...

Drawn out and ready to be cut.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03953.sized.jpg

Friggin mouse trap. Theres this mouse that ran across the garage door twice already. Once,... ok. Twice,.... I dont think so. The last thing I need is him showing up scaring me while cutting something,... might cut a fingre off or something. If something is going to be cut off it's his head. Yah,... I put cheeeese on the trap:) I dont even really think they prefer cheese, peanut butter is better but didnt have any. Oh well.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03954.sized.jpg

Mock up cut out. This is pretty close to what its really going to look like. I have to tweak it a bit though. Im thinking that I am going to have two front shields instead of one big one. This would mean there would need to be some sort of brace between drives 3 and 4. Also,... I just learned that I can open up the grooves for between the drives a bit more.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03956.sized.jpg

This will be folded aluminum that will be drilled and tapped just like what I did for the PSU. I need a tap and die kit:( I cant do it the sme way I did the PSu because this brackets is goign to be hung and the bolt will be removed several times so I need good strong treads.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03958.sized.jpg

This right here is a rivet hole. These 1/2" bands will be riveted to these tabs holding the top and the bottom of the rack together. The side shields will be bolted to these bands too using the folded/ drilled/ tapped aluminum method.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03960.sized.jpg

This is how its going to be hung from the bottom panel of the 5.25" bay. It's offset because I wanted this rack to be even with the case. The bottom panel was cut to contour the VFD cover and the LED cover.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03961.sized.jpg

A small gap between the two. Have to make rom the the fan bolts.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03962.sized.jpg

HDDs in place, bolted down. Here you can see the quick 1/2" bands I made. There folded tabs are not shown.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03963.sized.jpg

Here the space between the drives,... as you can see I can open up the grooves in the rack up by another 1.8" or so.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03964.sized.jpg

Tomorrow I will be wokring on the puter all day. I should have it completely finished by tomorrow and should be able to start something else. Oh and I will keep you updated on my furry little friend.

On your mouse problem! They dont really like cheese. if you dont have peanut butter try wrapping cotton (like a cotton ball or something like that) around the trap lever. they like that kind of stuff to make their nests. what I do to trap them quickly is rub the lever with peanut butter and then wrap with cotten. I did that trick in a house they were really comming in and filled all the traps in one night!

Update.

Finished scroll sawing the top of the rack.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03974.sized.jpg

Going to bend the tabs now.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03975.sized.jpg

Bent. These tabs are going to be folded so they can be drilled and tapped. They will hold the rack to the bottom panel of the 5.25" bay.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03976.sized.jpg

Some more bending,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03977.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03978.sized.jpg

I used this angled steel and a hammer to make 90 degree bends.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03979.sized.jpg

Finished. All the tabs are bent, the outer, inner, and the mounting. The overal finish of this rack isnt goignto get much better then this. It kinda hard to sand it to make it look nice with all the tabs. Well,... its impossible actually seeing that I was using the orbital sander.

Ok,... had to cut it a bit short today but I finished the mockup for the bottom of the HDD rack and as of now,... I like it more the the top piece!!! It's so cool!

Heres the mockup all cut out and ready to be bent.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03994.sized.jpg

Heres the aluminum I will cut it out of. I already cut it to size. I just have to scatch it out and cut. I'll finish that tomorrow.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03995.sized.jpg

I hope I am not to tired to work on it tomorrow. I am going to try and finish the rack tomorrow. Bye.

I only have one pic today, LOL. I didnt finish the bottom of the rack just yet. So close though. All the picture taking of this piece comes after where I lefted off so the next time I work on it I'll take pics. Here's the one pic I took.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC03996.sized.jpg

I am going to be doing a double at work tomorrow for some OT and on sunday so that means I wont be able to do anything until monday:( That is if I am not to tired:( So I guess,... till then:( Peace.

Sketchy, The case is made by Lian-Li
Though I think by now, this can no longer be considered a lian-li case.

Great work here Tribal, been watching it every day to see what ya come up with next. Keep it up and keep us informed :)

Ok,... heres the deal. I haven't done any work lately because I had to move home. I was having relationship problems and this is what ended up happening. Until now I had no computer or camera to log my work. I ordered some stuff to get the components for backout running. A cheap case, some 80mm fans, keyboard, another PSU(OCZ 520W POWER STREAM). I also got two litho batteries, charger, and a card reader all for my camera. Sunday I am going to get everything running. I got everything for the computer and I got the card reader. I am waiting for the batteries and the charger. As soon as I get everything,... I will get back to it. I just havent been myself lately because of all this. Just give me a couple more days and everything will be back to normal. Sorry.

Thanks dude. Most of the time to all of the time modders will post their system specs in the first couple posts of their worklog. In my case I am hacking up a Lian-Li 1200B and you can buy it here,... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112090 Thanks again.

Oh man, tribal, I've been reading this worklog all night now and I'm addicted! Your craftsmanship is ****ing amazing. This worklog is so inspiring, I can't wait until I can build my workbench and start on my own mod!

Anyways, I've got a bunch of things to say:
Those original pump housings looked so awesome (especially with the UV green accents) they reminded me of some structures from Halo. I hope the new ones look just as good.

Those 'futuristic' windows remind me of the English flag...

I've been looking for some tubing so I can tidy up the wires in my case. What are you using (it looks metallic)?

I'm in love with the DVD faceplates, theyre lookin' so sweet.

Yeah I know how things like that can screw up your life. My life has not been the happiest over the last 3 months, but I am getting buy. Hope things work out for the best and things get back on track for you.

As said before very nice work. Hope to see it done someday.

Hey bro, sorry to hear things aren't ideal for you at the moment. Take some time for yourself, get everythign sorted out, you know you've got a captive audience waiting patiently (well, usually patient that is) for your triumphant return. No matter what happens, things will work out.

Thanks guys:) Your words are very soothing. As you guyz like to read the log,... I like to read what all of you reply. Thanks again. Everything will be back on track this week. As soon I get the rest of the stuff for the camera I will be ready to go. Havent got the puter running yet. I was kind of busy today. I did solder the PSU all back together and got it running. It's installed in the temp case and ready to go. I cant wait to open the OCZ:) Till then.

Damn I forgot you guyz!!! I'm sorry!! I have been a wreck! I just posted an update this morning!!! Hold on,....

tribaloverkill
11-08-2005, 02:12 PM
UPDAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!! So things are smoothing out over here. I got back with my gurl,... I gave it a second chance in hopes that it works out between us this time around. I was so going to just move on because I was just tired of all the BS. I tried but after a certain point you just have to run away. Better to start over in hopes that the next person doesnt have a ton of BS for you then to sit back and argue over and over trying to fix something that will most likely never be fixed. With my gurl,... she is young,... I think she can change. From what I have seen from her in the last several days,... I think she can. There a huge part of me that says she wont because these days people dont change for nobody. You either like it or you dont, even if it something stupid that could easily be changed. It's not like I am trying to change my gurl,... but it is something that she does need to change not just for me but for everyone if she should end up dating someone else later down the road should our relationship not work. Anyways,... all is good now. The garage is pretty much done. I bought alot of new tools and I have been trying to organize the garage so evrything hd a place. Crazy thing it that I still have stuff coming in the mail so this will be going on for the next week. I have begun working on blackout now even though the garage is still all over the place. Anyways,... I will be doing work on blackout here and there,... everday, every other day,... till shes done. Heres the update,...

Here's where I left you guyz,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00033.sized.jpg

I bent all the fan tabs up. I should of bent the middle shield/ brace tabs first but no biggie, just would of been easier to bend them first.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00034.sized.jpg

Fan tabs done.

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00039.sized.jpg

One of my new toys. I LOVE THIS FRIGGIN THING!!! ARGH!!! Check it out,...
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00040.sized.jpg

Orbital function,... instead of the blade moving straight up and down, it moves in a slight circular motion so that on the down stroke the blade doesnt touch what you are cutting. It cuts down on friction. Friction is one of the reasons the blades wear out let alone the grinding itself in the down stroke. Friction is heat,... bad fo acrylic. This means that the acrylic wont melt as easily. I have not proven this yet seeing I havent cut any acylic but it makes sense. I had cut a piece of aluminum with this thing and DAMN!!! I never cut a piece of aluminum so fast with a jig saw!!! LOL.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00041.sized.jpg

Here's a shot of the blade in motion. You see the little hump in the stroke right under the bottom of the jig saw,... thats the tip of the blade in its up most position. It's moving is a circular motion.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00045.sized.jpg

tribaloverkill
11-08-2005, 02:14 PM
It also has a fricken laser!!! These shots were taken while on a surface as in the laser is on the surface.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00042.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00043.sized.jpg

This shot the jig saw is being held as in not on a surface,... I adjusted the beam so that its right in the very center of the blade. So the beam you see is the blade. HOW FRIGGIN COOL!!!!
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00046.sized.jpg

Now more "U" shank blades which means no more screw drivers to get the damn blades out. This thing is totally toolless. Hot.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00044.sized.jpg

Anyways,... here the side pieces.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00047.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00048.sized.jpg

http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00050.sized.jpg

All together.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00051.sized.jpg
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00052.sized.jpg

Fans resting ontop.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00053.sized.jpg

Riveted.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00054.sized.jpg

HDD in place. I could bolt it into place because the rivets were in the way, just by the slightest though. Some filing will cure that.
http://images.gruntville.com/casegallery/albums/tribaloverkill/DSC00055.sized.jpg

This is not one of my favorite pieces. I enjoyed making it but its not my favorite. The fact that I cant get it to look relly nice is one factor. The other because its goign to be covered up. It is a quick simple fix to keep me moving forward. I think down the road I will pump out a couple of universal HDD racks that actually look nice. I have to get a tig welder first:) Thats the key:) Sorry about the pics. They lok pretty good but I am using my old POS 3mp camera. I miss my gurls camera. I am going to have to steal it from her. Either that or get a new one 5+mp camera. I need something with higher resolution. Anyways,... till the next update:) PEACE!
