ok so for the last couple of days i have been playing stalker on my computer with the following specs
GigaByte 8I915GMF
Intel pentium 4 3.0GHz with HT
1gbs of ram DDR 400 pc3200
ati all-in-wonder 2006 pci express edition
enermax 350watt psu
so i have barely enough ram / vid card ram to run this game so i have set everything to as low as possible. even doing this the game will freeze sometimes. when it freezes i can sometimes CTRL+ALT+DEL my way out or ALT+TAB or hit the windows key. if none of those work i jsut restart and everything starts up normal again. so a couple of minutes ago it froze so tried everyithng and ended up rebooting. when it starts to boot up it goes to the splash screen and its taking forever. so i changed over to the familys harddrive and i get the same thing its slow slow slow. as i type this its still trying to load windows (i turned on the computer 10 minutes ago). does anyone have any idea whats going on???
its not been 15 minutes and its still not booting so i have shut it down and i will let it rest for a bit
here is a video of the start up

I'd start in safe mode and see if that speeds up the process. if that speeds up the process, have a look at the programs that are running in the startup folder. and also in the registry. Should you do anything in the registry, please make a complete full backup. handy in any case. I would also do a complete scandisk. after that, I would do a defrag. I'm thinking that there might be some files not quite right in the system... also I would check for any spyware just in case some got past whatever measures you have taken.
another utility that is good to check is msconfig you can just check and uncheck programs that start with the computer to verify problem programs...
hope that this is of some help.

I had that exact same problem after playing the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R I played it for like 1 hour on a PC with far more than enough MEM/CPU Speed. Damn thing went blue death twice or three times. I ended up replacing the video card that fixed the problem. Sucks to got a PNY Nvidia Geforce 7300 256mb that garbage now.
Hopefully I can do a RMA on it or something.
That thing is Slugggggish. .. Id Do a system restore if I were you.

how do i do a system restore?
also is there anyway to partition a harddrive without formating or loosing any of the information?
Note: i can't get into windows to do it.

I like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
2.13 Core2Duo OC'd to 2.4
2gb of DDR2
7950 GT
I play at with all my bells and whistles and haven't noticed a hiccup yet.
I'd suggest more RAM
As for windows, if you are on XP and you reboot with the CD in, it gives you the option to restore/repair...
As for partitioning to do it once you have the drive installed, i think you need some after market product, like Partition Magic or something.

Depending on the computer, while restarting you can keep hitting f10 until it starts beeping.

Maybe you can format another hard drive then plug that one in and delete all the bs? I dunno if it would conflict with anything though.
I'd try calling the local comp usa or something to see if they can transfer data? I dunno why they couldn't unless it's a security threat or something.

i have tried putting the cd in and it gives me 2 options 1 install windows and 2 recover something, i don't remember but i selected that and all that does is take me into dos.
It's called recovery console.
I'm extremely busy at work right now, I'll help you once I get home.

well i booted up with the windows cd and went to install windows (the first option) and it found the previous installation so i told it to repair it and it seems like it completey reinstalled windows. i had to redownload IE7,windows media player, etc. so can i know to go system restore and go back to the point just before i installed stalker?! i'm going to try.
