My aunt has a company that screen prints custom shirts for business and such. Me and my uncle are going to be making a sister company of that company by having pre-designed shirts, but were not really sure what kind of shirts we are going to be selling.
I was thinking about selling shirts that have abstract designs and such.
What do you guys think?

Personally, I hate shirts that look too busy. It took me an hour of online searching just to find a pair of board shorts that weren't all gaudy/ugly

If your doing nerdy, be original. Sit down and try to come up with some original shirt stuffs.
I work at a graphics/shirt/sign shop and we always talked about stocking pre-made shirts, but we always were antsy on how well theyd sell comparitivly to custom shirts.
Heres a good start-off nerd shirt. (I know self glorifieng me :P)
Have a pic of a hammer, and say hammatime!
I know, im gracious to allow you to use it...but its for a good cause :P :P :P

Bah, I use it anyway. :p But I don't over-use it though, lol.
It would go great on a shirt though... you could almost put the dancing banana on a shirt with a hologram or something so that it actually looks like it's dancing, lol.

She ordered the machines and trademarked her name and such so she technically has a business but she hasn't made any shirts yet, because she hasnt gotten the machines in yet.

those things are expensive too 6-7k at least of investment capital is needed
exactly what process do you use? i use a light sensitive emulsion that is coated on the screen and exposed to UV light.
its cheaper to just clamp on the screen rather than buying one of those circular press things that rotate around.

I used to be pretty big into screen printing. I have a 2000$ pro screen press in my garage that I haven't touched since I moved about a year ago. It's time consuming but if you can find a market there is some real dough in it.
There is more bucks in pre-made shirts but it is hard to come up with a winning design. You really need to be on your a-game graphic design wise to do well.
Good luck.

Screen printing is only profitable if you have bulk. If its like 10 shirts...its totally not worth doing cause of the time and how mmuch the supplies cost.
I was the only one in my store that could screen print correctly :P
