Project: Narcotic Orange

hi all, this is my first post on this forum. so i started a worklog on another site and i want to share it here. so here i go.

Alright so heres the story. One of my teachers from my school had this old storage room(he teaches web page design). One day i asked if i could go in being the nerd i am. So i went in and i saw this really old ATX. I said wow that would be sweet to mod and he asked if i wanted it. So i took it and here i am.

The Design:
Well what im shooting for is a orange, black, and white color scheme. I want to make it look really modern and futuristic. Im going to be using acrylic, brushed aluminum, and the colors for paint. I have some pics below starting the project.

what i want to do for a design is have orange underneath then some brushed aluminum and then acrylic. i think that would look really nice. and i know someone that cane make cuts for me. anyways sanded it down. tomorrow ill show you the window. pics...

my plan was to install fan ducts, 92mm and 120mm.

i got my first coat of bondo on the case around the fan ducts and i like how it looks for the firs coat. i have bad news though, i was cutting the front of the metal case and my dremel just died. oh well just another excuse to get a better one. with bad news comes good news. my friend mods cases too and he told me i can borrow his airbrush. so in the next 2 week or so i will go get a color i like and put it on the side case panel(the one that isnt changing. anyways pics.

thats pretty much it for now. on june 1 i will have the side panel accesorries on. so stay tuned.

the orange in this color http://duplicolor.com/products/metalspecks.html would be sweet ! just use the proper primer (http://duplicolor.com/products/primer.html) they always say you should stay with 1 brand. :D

those are really sweet but i think im going for more of a plain orange. check out this case mod. http://www.mnpctech.com/120mm_FanDuct_Computer_Mod1.html . think of that paint but orange. that mod is where i originally got the idea. because he used metal and i thought it would look really cool with plexi over the metal. but thanks for the reply.

well i chose narcotic because when i do crack and it makes the computer mods look even better.

and on the side its just going to be maybe the name of my mod and some nice logo.

alright so when i was thinking about how the overall look will be i thought that the left side panel would over power the rest of the mod so im going to do the same thing i did on the left panel and do it on the top but no window. so i drew it up and this is what i came up with it.

you can actually still see the stickers on the pc from my school. i will sand that off later.

That looks pretty cool. I used to doodle sketches like that all the time back in high school. Just something about it that I like, maybe we've played tetris too much? lol :p

I know exactly what you mean, I guess I'm sort of a perfectionist in that kind of way. It's why I failed all my art classes (drawing and pottery). I spent so much time on making everything nice and even and "perfect" that I completely missed the deadline each and every time. In pottery, I made a vase out of clay ropes. I only got about a 3rd way done because I was so careful with making the ropes perfectly symmetrical. My teachers say I have an "overly high attention to detail". I guess thats a good thing, but I've noticed that if I purposely try to be sloppy and non-caring that my art turns out much better.

I've always been into art, I guess thats why I took such a high interest in this community. Combining art and technology, can't get much better than that!

lol anyways, looking good bud! Can't wait to see some updates.

Have you decided on your color scheme yet? or what colors you are wanting to use? I think a pearlescent orange would be wicked! ;)

I think the top panel is a cool idea, but I think it might look better with a symmetrical design..?

Just my 2 cents.. I love the side panel design, and I think the pearlescent orange will be incredible.

ok i really need some help. on the top panel i saw what lukifer22 said by how i need to make it asymmetrical so i want to put either two 120mm or 80mm fans for maybe some watercooling or just plain fans. so i have a couple of questions. how big exactly is 120mm in inches, and how far should i space them apart. i want it to fit something like this.

well 25mm is one inch so its a little less than 5 inches, if that helps

If I remember correctly a standard sized CD is 120mm. Also I think that the small CDs is 80mm. Maybe you can use CDs to see the sizing.

Lmao! i have that exact same case. The front bezel is a little diffrent than yours is but its identical inside. I also got mine from the back room in a school. Its a monster of a case eh. I especially like the retractable feet on the bottom. I dont quite understand why there is a single hard drive mount on the top but if i was to ever put watercooling in it i think it would make an excelent spot for a 3.5 reservoir.
