How a hard drive works

I don't think this has been posted yet. Its a video of a hard drive in action with a clear cover over the entire thing! Its just a test drive, but still, somebody made a clear cover for the entire drive.

that bar won't be moving at full speed, at full speed you would barly beable to see it. and its called the HEAD i thinks

You don't see the head when the drive is on and running, like the 'ghost' of the random seek.

This is a great example of why hard drives die. They run, like that, for around 3-5 years without failure. It's really a testament of great engineering over the past 40 years. Hard drives are some tough mofos when you consider the mechanics and how accurate they have to be.
