I made it up to Green Belt in Tae Kwon Datta. . When i was 11 or 12. .
I'm a black belt in Origami :D
im not much of a martial artist... i did a lil tae kwon do or howeva u spell it heh
a lil judo and a lil karate but not much... jus the basics... im more of a street fighter..... no rules and brutal.. :D :D
no martial arts training here.... but that don't mean i wont WHOOP you're ass !
last time a dude with a knife came to me (can you believe my luck ) he had my footprint in his face :D
I'm looking into it soon, any recommendations? I was gonna take Chin Na, but they don't have trainers for it.
Made it to Brown Belt (Decided) in Taekwondo.
I have a collection of books on Dim Mak.
A good resource for disabling your enemy's defenses.
Watching the Movie 300 check it out.
Some martial arts training here. Mostly boxing and good ole' irish bar room brawling.
In my experience, aikido or Ju Jitsu are the most fun and Ju Jitsu is the most practical for real world application for one on one. I would try to find one of these first, then maybe look for Kung Fu. I didn't care much for Tae kwon do or Karate.Quote:

Sambo.
"Your opponent cannot kick you if you break his leg."
I'm a black belt in Taekwondo, but I stopped because 2 years ago because my after school computing classes were on the same afternoon...
I have a bunch of ninja friends, one of my besties does Hoshin four nights a week.
I have taken some Brazilian Jujitsu but Ive always wanted to take mui tia. Those guys are bad son of a .... Huhemmm.
I do Karate with the police, and the guy who does our Gradings is the guy who 'brought Karate to Scotland'.
It's great; because the guys use it almost every day in fights, the usual pattern goes like: "...and that's what you do in a competition. Now, in the street, if some guy is coming for you, what you do is this instead, and you can see, that will break his nose for you, then you do this and he won't be getting up. Then you get out of there."
Of course, haven't been in a while...but when I was there, I was known to have good kicks, reactions, and a high pain threshold. I wasn't too aggressive though, which meant my sparring partners ended up chasing me across the hall while I blocked everything...not exactly exciting!

Chin Na isn't a form in it's own right it is a very specialized training within Kung Fu. Any decent Kung Fu instructor can give you Chin Na training once you choose a discipline.Quote:

p.s. I have a small amount of training (but no belts) in both Muai Thai and Gong Fu (Cantonese Kung Fu).
I loves Aikido..its fun being repeatedly thrown around a room by men twice your size
...which goes to show how little I truly know about martial arts, lol. I'll look into Kung Fu then... I wonder who happens to be around my area. Thanks Ironcat.
EDIT: Just saw jd's post (damn lack of contacts atm) and I guess that may work too... do something simple and then step up to a different martial art... hmm...
I would recommend any martial art be taken with a dose of meditation. :) I hear from martial artists who started meditating it changed their martial arts practice. The calming effects of meditation enhance all sports and have the additional benefit of making one less likely to ever resort to physical violence, either in attack or defense.
i dont have any formal training, but i do my own improvised weapon work. i like going at it with a big sword or axe. i used to be all about the surprise attack, but now im strong enough that i just beat my opponents into submission. mind you, i dont usually go up against other people because not many are into the whole swordplay scene.
i know theres various medieval reenactment groups and contests... but i dont know if those are my kind of thing... although i guess that would be the best place to beat the crap out of someone in the style i like.
Hehe this took me back...
I have a small amount of training, just enough to keep me safe...
I had a similar occurrence with some kid with a knife who left me 2 nice scars. I know 3 things for sure;
1. he was in the hospital longer than me...
2. he will talk and breath funny until a major operation...
3. he will never have kids of his own.
Do never mess with a size 12 steel toe boot.
...and Minty, I too boxed in the Navy, although it was not by choice...
Slug; I had a room mate that was into the Sword fighting. He was extremely proficient at the Rapier and Dagger style of fighting. He taught me for 2 years how to use a Rapier and Dagger and trained me in using a Halberd (which I still have) to defend against and attack a swordsman. In 2 1/2 years I was never able to touch him and was never able to defend. He was too good.
Speaking of weapons, my friend's dad is a postman by day, and a medieval knight the rest of the time. The boot of his car is filled with broadswords, shields and armour, and whenever I go over to my friend's place, we have a few rounds of Soul Calibre, followed by a few rounds with the broadswords.
awesome, sounds like my kind of friend's dad. im surprised how many people actually are into that thing... just not in my area to my knowledge. its pretty interesting to watch some of the reenactments, but like i said before, i just like whacking the crap out of stuff. if it happens to be a person who can fight back... all the better.Quote:

I'm Preddy good with NunChucks! I should do a YouTube Video :D
I boxed in Atlanta for about 7 years. Did some boxing in the Navy...but it was unnoficial. Great Mistakes...er Great Lakes...was fun. Then started Jiu Jitsu in the military. My father was a CQB instructor for the Army, He had a black belt in TKD and Akido. I love to watch the UFC and Pride Fighting on TV and can't help but wonder how well I would do, thos guys are tough as nails. There's also a new series that comes on called "Natural Weapon" or something like that, It air on fridays and it's pretty awsome, covers all types of fighting styles from all around the world. Either on Discovery or TLC, I cannot remember which.
The show is called "Human Weapon" and the episode that centered on Eskrima is what started the whole thread...
