cd rom not detected?

in my efforts to get moditor finished i changed the cdrom from my system and plugged it all in and thought it should work


what did i forget?

You sure it's a working drive? If it works fine in another machine, make sure the ribbon cable's plugged in correctly on both ends, and that it's not damaged. If that doesn't do it, check the jumpers on the drive, especially if there's another drive on that IDE channel (on the cable).

Does the drive open/close? If not, no power.

Is the HDD sata too, and is it working? If so, try powering down, swapping ports, and rebooting.
If not..
Could the SATA controller be disabled in bios?

the hdd does work it is this pc

swapped over the sata things and still doesnt workk

Are you using one of those sata power adapters? May want to try another one ive had several of them that created a short, some of them were soldered inside the connector in the wrong location. May want to check it out. I would also check to make sure the sata cables are not kinked or damaged at the ends.
