I think that the nVidia 8800s are getting down pretty cheap and they are a very good card. ATi's HD3850/HD3870 cards are also going down in price. I personally have an HD3870 and really like it. I'm not sure how much they would cost in Britain, though.

I would say your cpu needs a step up rather then your gpu (while I realize it's broken) but that wasn't your question. If you have your heart set on a new gpu, I'd say go for the geforce 8 series. In particular, the 8800gt just like xRyokenx said.

I would go with a 8800GT or 9800GT. They are about the same price right now. The ATI 3850 (or70) in Crossfire does very very well, and is a good card on its own as well.

Nono, I'm not saying by any stretch that your cpu is BAD, I'm just saying that your not going to see huge performance gains by throwing a newer gpu at it. Often times in the name of performance people grab the newest graphics card, pop it in and expect 60 fps running crysis at max and the cpu is left out in the cold. Just don't forget that a 6000 x2 won't keep up as well with an 8800gt or above as well as a quad core or even a core 2 duo would. But like I said in my other post, you weren't looking for a new cpu, so if you do want the most bang for your buck in the graphics card market, go with the 8800gt or even the lower geforce 9 series cards.

How about two of these in CrsossFire? They'd only be around 60 euros each.

I would recommend the 8800GT or the 9800GT, they basically are around the same price and perform around the same mark. You may be able to step up to a 9800GTX+ but that may be a it to much for the PSU.
