alright, found this place, and they're only about 45 mins from me...

its $249-$299 for my drive. If they can recover it then I'll just have to send it in for warranty. Maybe when I get the new one I'll sell this one and get a WD500

I've been reading over at Dead HardDrive and it seems its a logic board failure

the 500 was more than enough for me, plus coupled with my 400GB WD drive, more storage than I'll need

sorry to hear about the massive loss of all your stuff. nevermind is on the right track with the freezer idea if the drive is hanging. but that seems strange that putting in a new vga card that your hd would suddenly have an issue. try putting your old vga back in, depending on the psu it might not have the power to run the new vga and hard drive. also check the bios there might be a boot order out of place. hope everything goes well keep us updated.

tried teh freezer, but its not a stuck spindle, so it did nothing. I can hear and feel the drive spin up, but it just wont read. I tried swapping cards back, no go. I've been reading up on the issue over at dead hard drive and it seems to be a logic board issue. I've found a guy on that site that can get me a new board with the correct firmware for $98 shipped. FAR less epexnsive than any data recovery service. When I get it I'll pull my data off, then swap the boards back and send it in for warranty
