and i think with my old 8600GT's in sli i went from stock 7-8k to 13k with overclocking, voltmods on my video cards and some -10C winter air

and its all FREE performance. thats the nicest part about it.

but, i scored (i cant remember exactly now) about 7000 3dmarkVantage with physx disabled.

The problem is, you cant really call a score invalid because of driver updates. The point is, im using the same hardware in both scores.

Please note that this result does not comply with the rules defined in the Driver Approval Policy for 3DMark Vantage and will not be visible on default result search on the ORB or on the Hall of Fame. Please ensure that you are using approved display drivers and system software versions provided with 3DMark Vantage or use the "Disable PPU" option.
    This is a valid score:

It should be noted that my MSI 9800GTX+ has a slight factory overclock (amusing, because I paid for a 'generic' card).

The problem is more the fact that only NVidia cards support GPU PhysX, therefore it's unfair to have the GPU do the CPU tests.

Using new drivers isn't the problem, it's the extra feature they introduced to them which unbalanced things.

Yeah, it is still an accurate reflection with the new drivers, as long as you have physx turned off.

Why would we do that? You didn't know about the PhysX and Futuremark situation.

Ha Ha Ha thats what you get you buying a ATI card. all is fair in love and war. besides arn't these tests supposed to reflect real world Performance benchmarks??? no point in lowering the bar just so the competition doesnt feel so bad about being ripped off.

The tests are meant to reflect real world performance, however, there is a slight problem. Not many games support PhysX, but if you use a PPU, your test isn't invalid because both an NVidia and an ATi system can have it. They're trying to balance things out so they're on fair ground.

However, after they first announced that NVidia's PhysX compatible drivers would be banned (even though you can disable PhysX), it became unbalanced again because ATi could always get their latest drivers certified, but NVidia couldn't. It took a month or 2 before futuremark allowed NVidia's latest drivers, providing that PhysX was disabled.

btw, if you're wondering why ATi doesn't have PhysX support, there is a couple of factors involved in this. One is the factor that there is a lot of red tape around this (NGO HQ originally was porting PhysX for ATi use) and the other factor is ATi was apparently getting Havok accellerated on their GPUs (which hasn't happened at all). I'm hoping that as OpenCL (Not OpenGL) matures, NVidia will port PhysX over to OpenCL (doubtful) and there will be compatibility over the cards.
