Ok so I am working on several photos in photoshop. Adding some grunge borders and the like. I have about 30 photos open @ about 6mb each and 50 eps files open @ about 2mb each.

I will get about 10 min into the first photos and photoshop will crash to the desktop. No "windows has encountered a problem" nothing. Photoshop just crashes to the desk top. I did get a "there is not enough memory to perform that task" error on the 3rd try just before it crashed. I know I am not running out of memory because I have 4gb in my photo editing rig.

Athlon 64 x2 5000+
4gb Corsair XMS2 800
gforce 7600gt
Win Vista Home premium 32 bit
photoshop cs3

Any OC? Sounds more like heat or an instability, not a RAM overflow.

Just noticed 32 bit. It can only allocate 2 GB to any app, and it only sees 3.5 GB. You may have something start up elsewhere, and terminate PS for a memory allocation request.

Ram test out OK. The photo rig is stock, no OC, and the temps are normal. Not high at all.

I do remember getting the "not enough memory error" a while back while working on a very large .tiff file. It was something like 80mb. But I have 2.5gb of ram allocated for photoshop to use and another 50gb of allocated scratch disk space for it to use. So there is no way its running out of memory to use.

I guess I will leave malware bytes running and see if it catches anything.

I'd recommend a heavy caliber like a .45-70 Govt.

I'd also mention the 3.5 gig memory cap, but I highly doubt that's coming into play. My vote is for malware as well.
