    Default Dual Core

What is the best dual core out there? I am getting a 3.4 dual core but I was wondering if there are 3.6 or 3.8?? Also, how much is a 3.4 oc'd to a 3.6 and/or 3.8 worth?

You could get the Pentium D 805 for around $100 and overclock that to 4.1 GHz.

Wouldnt it be safer to use a 3.4 instead?? I dont mind paying the money for a processor. Also.... as I understand it.. ocing a cpu can create unstability and over heating and it wears down the life faster too. So.... a 3.4 would minimize that compared to 805 right? Also can you awnser my first question too?

If it is unstable, then you went a little bit too far in overclocking. I believe it wears down the life faster because of the heat issue. So as long as you can keep it cool, then there shouldn't be that much of a problem.

    There is a Pentium D @ 3.6 GHz:

But this will cost a bit more.

The 3.4Ghz that you picked out is fine. You can even go a bit lower if you want to save some more money.

I think I'll stick with the 3.4. The 3.6 cost too much.. and down grading to a 3.2 would only make things harder on the cpu in the long run. 3.4 to 3.8 sounds good to me ^_^

that is really not that big of a difference, maybe 5fps max in a game. I would get the cheapest one and overclock

It's all good. Was a terriffic read!

I've been working in IT since 1996, but have never tried to overclock before. When working with client machines, often they are more concerned with reliability than pushing the speed limits and potentially damaging their hardware.

After reading that article though, I'm game. I've already got a case to build the monster in (just bought an Antec P180B), and I've got my sights set on 4.0ghz. I guess the only thing holding me back before was cost.. too affordable to not try it now.

Plus, I have to beat my brothers score in 3DMark06.
