Yes the 7600gt is a complety different card to the 6600gt. Different die, gpu and construction. I don't know how many times this has to be said. Go for the 7900gt. Trust me. Alot of games don't support SLI except Nvidia's love child FEAR. So the game will only use 1 7600gt.

Go for the 7900gt you wont be disapointed.

The main reason I am asking is that I am looking to do a whole system rebuild probs halfway throught next year. By then their will probably be sumthing mew and i can go SLI with to 7900GT's. I can get 2 7600GT's for slightly cheeper then then 7900GT. I was thinking that i'm going duel core cpu, duel chanel ram and duel HDD's in raid 0 why not go SLI. I think I will probably wate for the next batch and just get two 7900GT's and by then most of the games will support SLI anyway.

Can you reccomend any gd 7900GT's? I dont want to spend more then $600 AUS on the card.

You do realize that next spring (hopefully) your going to have to buy new cards if you want dx10?

Get a evga 7900gt. Evga make the best cards in the world. They have only one dealer in Australia who has limited stock. This ones OC'd and is $520 $AUS.

Thanks. I was gonna get an XFX XXX edition but then the place I was gonna get it from stopped selling them. I could have asked them to order it in but a better card came up anyway. I'm in adelaide so i'm going through www.photech.com.au its a great site with really good prices.

OH... I was just thinking, and you are probably going to kill me for asking this but what about ATI, my first card was an ATI 9550 and it ran really well. Then i upgraded to my 6600GT and it is really **** and i mean really ****, will hardly run BF2. Just putting that out there.

Never owned an ATI before (well until a few days ago when I ordered one) but I still really like nVidia. What ATI card are you looking at?

Also, my 6600GT was awesome, and I mean really awesome. It was an eVGA, which I also believe is the way to go if you get an nVidia. Fricking Doom 3 heatsink cover... it pwned when I used AGP. If you want to see the Doom 3 awesomeness, there is a picture of it in my Trading Post thread.

Um well i'm not looking at any ATI cards at the moment. What are their 7900GT equivelents? My 6600GT is an agp leadtech winfast A6600GT but i think the problem is that its only 128mb 128bit.

did you miss my speel about the x1900gt? here, take it, use the info, make an informed choice.

another thing to consider is the x1900gt. it is in the same price range for the most part... except this sapphire one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102022. its not cheap because its a bad brand, its cheap because its a good deal.

i dont know how the x1900gt and the 7900gt stack up. im going to look for some comparisons... but i would imagine they would be close, and the price of that particular sapphire card is attractive.

<EDIT> yes the x1900gt and 7900gt are about evenly matched at stock speeds. to give the 7900 an advantage worth noting, i would say you need a core clock of about 500 (stock is 450). to give the x1900 an advantage, i would say a core clock of about 625 (stock is 575). both of them may allow you to unlock an extra few pipelines as well. overall it really is a toss up.

Oh sorry must have forgot. This is a great card and ATI have better picture quality over NVIDIA, may consider this card.
