Default New PC Built, no power to CD drives

Hey guys, I just put together the build in my sig, trying to get her all fired and up and install my OS. Everything seems to power on and run just fine, except for my 2 slim CD drives. I checked the wiring to all my molex's and pins because I sleeved the cables, and everything is in order. I put the adapter boards on the CD drives and those went on without a problem.

If I can't power the CD drives, I can't install the OS Well at least I know my hard drive is blank because I turn her on and nothing happens, haha.

I'll come back and post the actual drives in a minute.

    and these adapter boards;

Just out of curiosity, should I be able to power on those CD drives without plugging in the ribbon cable? (Just so I can pull these drives out and test them on my test-power supply, would make it a lot easier).

sure.. you don't need the IDE cables plugged in to test the CD drives for power. I do it all the time.

Re-checked my custom sleeved cables and molex. I even took a drive and plugged it directly into my test PSU's 4 pin power cable. Nothing.

I'm wondering if my converter-cards on the back are bad, or something else just isn't right =/.

look at the drives themselves. Try them with another PSU, and then try another drive with the new PSU. If you get the same results with the other PSU, and the other drive powers fine off of your new PSU, then it's the drives.

Ok, here's a run down of what I've attempted so far.

Slim-drives plugged into the system - nothing
Slim-drives plugged into only a test PSU - nothing

Bought a regular DVD drive thinking there was something wrong with the slim-drive converter boards.

Plugged the regular DVD drive into my test PSU only - nothing
Plugged it into my machine and mobo - nothing
Plugged the power into my test PSU, and the IDE cable into my machine - nothing

running out of ideas here guys =/

The PSU in my system is a 550W Silverstone, and that's what's currently plugged into the mobo. My test PSU is just a lame PSU that came with my case, so I only use it as a test PSU because of it's lack of power.

I think today I'm going to open my current PC and try and install that new regular DVD drive inside it, see what happens.

Keep us updated... I'm scratching my head.

Can't you make a test run, by completely installing the lame PSU to your moBo... etc.?

    Just wondering.

    Peace

I doubt it. It's the PC in my sig, and I think the case PSU was something like 400W or even 350W. I'm going to buy a multimeter today and test my molex connections. My buddy thinks that the CD drive might not be getting enough power.

er, you can determine if the drive's bad or not without powering your whole system. just plug a known good PS into the motherboard power and the cd drive, hit the power button, then try to eject the cd drive.
you can even just short 2 of the wires on the PS motherboard power connector, but i don't recall which two offhand.
don't have to plug in fans, HDs, floppies, etc. just the cd drive
