    Default Macintosh IIcx turned into pc

    I decided to start a worklog as I have gained the proper tools to atleast start into the case. I will post pictures of my progress tomorrow but I wanted to atleast start the log tonight.

    As I have had post about a mac made into pc, I knew from the start that this will be a task with extreme difficulty. Yet, it will be a accomplishment when I finish.

    The case will be a microatx case but will be build to allow for any microatx motherboard to be placed inside if the cpu socket is in the right place. The case will house two hhds, one floppy, one cd-rom, and anything else required to power the pc. Also I will use a hole saw to make blow holes in the left and right side of the case. I will attemp to keep the front of the case intact as much as possible, maybe even cut plastic out and then pasting the plastic onto the front of the cd-rom. The back is completely cut-out and plexi will placed there to allow the three ccfl to shine through. Well planned holes will be cut for additional venting and to allow a lighting effect to be created.

    Here are some before pictures and tomorrow ill post progress pictures.

    On a side note, i would like to add that using a dremel cut off wheel has been a interesting melting tool in sculpting the plastic.

    Well I have the pictures I said I would. These show how the motherboard fits inside. The motherboard plate is from a compaq 4410us, a dremel was not meant for cutting metal but I made it work. I plan to use velcro to holp the drives and psu in place, a alternative to making holes.

    Also you can see that I havent cleaned up the plastic yet, at least I have a pic.

    at first when you said you were doing this, i was a little skeptical at how you could mod a pc into one of those apple macs, but i see it's not quite what i thought nice work, i can't wait till its done, you should take it to be serviced sometime

    * UPDATE *

    I decided to turn the project into a PC Rescue Box after seeing this guide http://www.casemodgod.com/cmg/Howto-story--41.html . And will add a Stand Alone Power Supply Unit following this guide http://www.casemodgod.com/cmg/Howto-story--16.html . After the second try I was able to have a SAPSU up and running. I change the fan to a red led fan to know when it is on. The switch infront of the SAPSU is how I turn it on and off, I plan to use the red ccfl where that switch came from that is used with this SAPSU to tell when it is on and off when it is installed into the apple.

    I am happy to have it work out and not waste any parts.

    You can mod almost all the mac's into pc use. I've done an apple g4 conversion ( http://www.gordyhand.co.uk/main.php?page=badapple ) and I'm in the middle of a Apple Cube conversion ( http://www.gordyhand.co.uk/main.php?page=maccube )

    There have also been several g5 conversions and some g3 ones as well. The older apples have also seen conversions as well.

    The use of velcro seems interesting, not sure that I would trust it to hold myself. I would look at another method attaching items to the casing , rivets or even nutserts are good.
    I will definitly keep an eye on this thread DRece
