I'm quite prepared to in the name of science. If it;s really running at anything like that it will calculate Pi to 4 million digits in about 54 seconds.

well... you will surely find the quirk somewhere! I myself couldn't go past 3GHz with my x2... so one day I may decide to take everything off, including the heat spreader from the chip and cool it with.. nothing of course, first I gotta have a quad core backup >: )

Oh, noticed you still have stock cooling on the chipset.. What are you gonna do about that? Maybe that is limiting your OC

:p to be honest, I was reading your desk potter right now you beat me to it those 2 heat pipes should do a very good job. I am beginning to wonder if I should watercool my chipset.. I have a HR-05, good sink, but it has one heatpipe only.. and doe it job with no fan on it pretty well. So, I bet you are gonna stay cool and quiet with this.

Oh, about the x2.. I have the lowest model, the 3600+ EE or so-called dual core sempron.. I am pretty happy with it, I keep it at 2.6 or 2.7 to get most out of the ram, but it went up to 2.9+, almost 3... Of course, that is nowhere near the 8GHz mark

Just as a curiosity, you should run 3dmark to see what score you get from the cpu. I mean, even tho this is something strange, maybe (0.00001%) you have actually forced the multiplier open.. and the board can't read it.. check to see if the performance growth is way higher than the 200 extra MHz would achieve.. 8GHz is impossible, but going over 3 isn't and on to 4 isn't

It's actually quite strange. Can you give a screen shot of the front of CPU-Z?
The fact it's running really strange indicates there is a problem somewhere.
Try running this: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
That will give you true temps of the CPU (and also tell you the speed and what CPU you really have)

And 3:30 is a respectable time, but it can't beat 1:36 xD

I'm down to 3.07 and I'm not really trying yet. Thats runningit all the way with the thread process set to realtime. It's weird. The multiplier goes up and down. I think I know what is happening. All other processes are slowed to a near stop. I think CoreCentre is misreporting during the calculating phases of the program when it is running loops and at that times it reports massive overclocks or ... as the memory controller is on the chip and it knows it doesn't need to address memory .. it lets rip ... more to come.

Well if it's doing that, then it's very silly. That calculation (which told me my laptop was running at 82GHz) can be affected by heavy load..... so it maybe a cause, but it should read it from the CPU/NB.
