I got a hold of a Compaq 1700, and when plugged in, the power led flashes real quick on and thern stays off for 1/2 sec. It does it with battery in and AC cablle plugged in, w/o battery and w/ ac cord.
Anything I should try?

maybe the battery and ac cord are shot, get a volt/multimeter and see if you getting the correct voltages.

try a different charger if possible.. you can do what I did. Take it in to Futureshop, and ask to try it with a generic one to make sure it works. If it does, sweet. If not, oh well.

If you got it for free, throw it on ebay. There are always buyers for everything haha.
hahaha, ya they're out there but you just gotta contact ebay and relist it for free. As long as you list it with immediate payment required you should be OK....ish. haha.
.............Damn Nigerians............... .
Sell it for spare parts lol. Perhaps get some adapters so that u can use the hard drive and DVD drive in ur desktop (if you have one), you could even try and get the monitor to work with a desktop, but i don't know if that's possible lol

The LCD could possibly be used, if you can find a suitable controller.. but those are neither cheap nor plentiful.
Mitternacht: Does it do anything if you keep holding the power button down? I've seen some that you have to hold in for 3-4 secs to power up if the battery is dead (or unable to hold a charge).
