    I"m loving this thread too..

busting my brain on your last one Jon..

"5 points will be rewarded to thee, if thou can make sense of this one, two, and three"

"Cite one two-worded palindrome that can accurately describe the three-way relationship in the atomic particles of the non-metalic portion in lye."

Lye = NaOH, non metallic would be the hydroxide, OH. There's a covalent bond at work here, sharing an electron between the oxygen and hydrogen, and another with the sodium.

    ...still working on this one.

mmmm, you are dissecting the concept well and focusing on the important matter, forget the sodium. The problem with this riddle that makes it so hard to solve is the fact that a palindrome isn't easy to come up with. The scientific concept is rather simple, poetically describing it is not. There technically isn't an electron exchange between the ions anyway, it's the charge of the atoms that make them hug. But the sodium is not important here.

There's a Finnish palidrome for someone who sells lye... one long word though..19 letters.

Being the king of misdirection that Jon is, I'm sure that I'm taking this too literally.

yup, this palindrome contains two words, not a 19 lettered word (think physical description)

3 men agree to share a hotel room on a business trip. The room will cost $30 for the night, so they each pay $10.

After the men return to their room, the desk clerk decides to give them a discount, so he sends a bellhop to their room with $5.

The bellhop stops midway, and is unsure how to divide the $5 among the 3 men. He keeps $2 for himself, and gives each man $1, so they each paid $9 for the night.

    3 men x $9 = $27, +$2 the bellhop kept = $29.

    Where is the missing dollar?

    A few more:

Today, he is there to trip you up, and he will torture you tomorrow. Yet he is also there to ease the pain, when you are lost in grief and sorrow.

A hill full, a hole full, yet you cannot catch a bowl full. What is it?

'Twas in Heaven pronounce; 'twas muttered in hell; and echo caught faintly the sound as it fell. On the confines of earth it was permitted to rest; and in the depths of its presence it was confessed.

This is a tricky one, there is a jacked up illusion in that math because the money is all there, I just can't quite figure out the sum at the end.

Alright, I did the math wrong and came up with $29. I'm going to try again.

It was there all along. The desk clerk knocked $5 off of the total bill, thus dropping it to $25. $25/3= $8.34, $8.33 and $8.33. Add a dollar to each of those amounts and the total is $28. Add in the two bucks the bellhop kept and you get $30.

That's because you're looking at the wrong end of the equation!
