It was may 30th.The detective had just been called in for a case of a teenager punching an old man. Witnesses say that the teenager went up to the man and punched him in the face. Max Baxter, the teens best friend had another story. "It was a hot day. I was waiting in the long line for the bank.Finally I decided I would not wait because the line was too long. As I was walking out of the bank, I saw my friend on the other side of the street and the old man on my side. As they crossed,the old man kicked him in the leg. All my friend was trying to do was protect himself"

The detective thought for a while. Finally he said to the police man beside him"Charge Max for lying and assisted crime and charge his friend with assault."


How did the detective know Max was lying?
