When you said install with a regular disc, then run the upgrade, I assumed (and I wonder if Locum did too..) that you meant "install XP first, then upgrade to 7."

That explains my suggestion of "xp wont progress without a key".

If you DO install XP first, then upgrade to Windows 7, DO NOT ACTIVATE THE XP if you are using a Key from someone else!

You can install XP with someone elses key, then run the upgrade to 7, XP does not need to be activated.

I made the mistake of trying to use Server RAM (Registered RAM).
