Default is this a great idea or what!

i was at work waiting for a ride and staring at the water cooler when it hit me. why not hook it up to the computer and have a really cool (temp wise) water cooled pc. here is how i would hook it up. maybe not with the extra pump but someething like that.

it would also be fairly cheap those water coolers are only 100 or 200. some have a mini fridge in the bottem so you could run a second tank of water just to make sure you will always have cool water.

    thoughts?!

Sounds like a good way to kill a computer.
The lines from the cooler will have condensation form on them and no doubt drip off inside your computer all over expensive parts that don't like moisture.

dam you, how dare you find a flaw lol... so just wrap them in foam and if done right it won't drip.

or run 1/2 line for the water cooling and then run some 3/4 or maybe even 1" around it and then you have a air pocket around it so it won't happen. it would be some work but for refrigerated cooling might be worth it...

Or run a small gutter like channel under the tube and have it go to a evap tray under the psu (like new fridges do so the heat from the psu will evaporate it) but the flaw to that is it would get moisture on the psu...

has anyone seen this idea before? i can't find anything on it

What you could almost do is make a spot for the computer components inside the base of the water-dispenser-type-thingie (can't think of what it's called at the moment) and have it all self contained, or build some sort of a case on the side. You could also have the big water jug type-thing on top too. That would be an awesomely unique mod... many kudos if you pull that off. I would love to see something like that...

EDIT: You could put the hoses going to and from the reservoir through the spigots. Like run the intake (the hot water) through the red one, and up to a radiator or something (maybe on top to the side or something) and have the cool water run out the blue spigot... too bad I can't draw (or I'm too lazy )...

ya never thought of putting the actually computer in the fridge. then i wouldn't have to worry about condensation. well once i start getting a steady paycheck i might look into that. would have to get longer cables and stuff though... ohwell

That's a fridge underneath it? Hmm... I thought it was just some sort of a stand... I'll try to think on this some... I'm... preoccupied with some trouble I'm having, we'll not mention what due to its nature.

well i've thought a little bit more and i think i would go for this water cooler.
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/MAXXPlus-Factory-...QQcmdZViewItem

also i wouldn't put the mobo and stuff in a frigde, i would just use it for cooling water.

its cheap, small, and has a compressor instead of semi-conductor cooling. it says it hold 4 L of cold water and get get to 10C. what i want to know is do you think if i over clocked the cpu and gpu if that much water would keep it cool before the water cooler could cool it ? though i guess that depends more so on the cooler.

Not all the watercooler units are refrigerated. Some are just a counter weight.

    Condensation is a big issue.
Modify a cooler and use that big tank as a resevoir. Remove the nozzles and run tubes, or remove the stopper and keep the nozzles. Anyway, neat idea. rep+

Putting anything warm or that generates heat inside a fridge will cause condensation on that object. running cold water pipes from the dispenser will cause condensation, and may even sneak under any insulation. I've seen this type of mod attempted before several times.

    on another note:

The water in the plastic tank is not cooled btw, it's room temp. The water goes to a small 4 liter cooling reservoir where it sits for a while until you dispense it. The unit will not be able to cool water fast enough, in about 2 minutes of use (assuming its a 150GPH typical DangerDen pump) it will drain the entire 5 Gal tank, and you will be running room temp water straight from the res. If you push it, the small compressor in this unit will burn out from constantly running, trying to reach the preset cooling temps. Once the compressor gets too hot, the sensors will turn it off to prevent siezure, or even fire.

assuming that in some strange bizzaro alternate universe the unit can keep up with providing cold water to cool the PC, in a matter of minutes you will be introducing very cold water into the plastic reservoir. This will cause mucho condensation that will gather around the tank and well...being water it just loves gravity and will soon collect on the bottom of the unit, and your floor.

You would have decent CPU temps for about 60 seconds, but Your electric bill would be astronomical

well now that i have heard more stuff on it and being that i've never built my own computer let alone a water system then i don't think i would try it just yet. not that it would be to hard for me just that i don't have money to waste is something where to go wrong. maybe in a couple of years i will try it but i doubt it.
