I'm late! Posting this update crazy late. Fire me.
Feb-28-2007 (Blackout)
More fitting and positioning.
Trying to make sure everything is straight. Everything is slightly bend out of shape. Nothing really noticable but when you put it all together is might just end up way out of shape. So I have to figure out what needs adjusting.
You see the lip of aluminum on the floor of the case. I need to avoid that when making my brackets for mounting the hdd cage.
So far everything looks straight as hell.
There the lip of aluminum in the back. Argh.
Wham. Brackets. How do they look? Ok right? How you like this pic? Not bad for taking it using my mouth! LOL. Actually blue-fusion stopped by to hang for a bit.
Very nice.
My boy blue-fusion.
He'll be stoppin by more often,...
This update is late too. *Runs and hides*
Mar-04-2007 (Blackout)
Ok. finished the brackets and riveted them. That looks cool.
Inside the case. Fits ever so snug. I love it.l
The holes I drilled for the two rear brackets.
Of course! Just my luck! I knew I was going to drill through this wheel thing but damn! I couldnt drill completely though it,... I had to drill the damn edge! ARGH! It's ok. I can fix this.
WHA LA! Nothing a round bastard(file) couldnt fix.
OH YEA. Thats so nice.
Ok! Everything is in place! All rivets in but not fastened. Everything fits perfectly! HOT!
Rivets under the case.
Side shots.
Cut out the fan box hole using the good ole dremel.
This is where I left off. I'm going back today to work on this.
oh dang...i was about to say HOLY S#$% how did i miss an update on blackout??!?
i love it
cant wait to buy my lian li
Who else goes ape-**** worrying about the underside of their case? You know what's on the bottom of my damn case? Newspaper. Cos i painted it on newspaper and it got stuck.Quote:

Dude, you shame me.
-Dave
Awesome as always man. Good work.
Dude you rock. LOL. I didn't really go ape-****, kinda. Wait till you see what I made for that hole! I have to see if I can update when I get home. I don't have a real connetion at the apartment right now. My roommate is switching to DSL and disconnected the cable. I'm on a wireless g card:(
HELLO! HI! My name is tribalOVERKILL! How you doing on this lovely day!
Mar-05-2007 (Blackout)
Fan box cover complete! With spring bolt fastener thingies!
I had to make them flex like this because I couldnt get the cover in with the regular stiff bolt thingies. These are much cooler anyways. The cover is actually pretty easy to install and remove!
Installed. I am hoping they make bolts like this one with a nicer head. A hex head maybe.
Underside looking in,...
Now I need to dress up that hole. Here's something I was playing around with,...
So the little something I was playing around with before turned out to be ehhhh. So,.....
Mar-07-2007 (Blackout)
I started with this,...
Dremeled some grooves for easy bending.
Tape off.
WHAM! The reason I say "WHAM!" or whenever you see "WHAM!", this means that I forgot to take photo's. I get so lost in my work that I forget. Sorry. Here it is! How hot is that! there is something I am not liking about it,... I can make this look better but i'm not because it's small and stupid and I have tons of more stuff to do to finihs this case sooooo moving on.
Hole before,...
Hole after,...
Now what about the underside of the hole?
You understand where I'm going here?
How about now?
And now?
How about now?
And now?
What about now?
Now?
I bent all the tabs over. Here I'm using a tack hammer to smash the corners together so they look nice and round.
How about now?
Yeeeeeeea. You see where I'm going with this.
Such a small piece but oh so nice. This has to be one of the finest pieces I have made. Reason being because it's so small.
On the case. It's not done. still have to sand away some height seeing that it's touching the wheel. I might go ahead and raise the wheels some too.
The filter material will be pressed in place. Easily removed and cleaned:)
Two pieces together.
Two pieces together with fan box.
so yea. Tell me what you think.
I love getting home in the evening and checking what Tribal has been up to. Dude it's great to watch you work again, keep it up.8)
How's spongebob these days?
Sponge Bob is in the netherlands. I'm going to get some more dolls to torture. No worries.
I made the top piece again. It looks so much better but hot damn was it a bit harder this time. Reason being because I made the hole a slit something to big. It was like next to nothing but still enough to keep that thing from sliding in.
Mar-08-2007 (Blackout)
First. Went a bought some angle steel. Going to use these as dollies for forming small metal stuff.
Here's the new piece. Notice I did not cut the corners this time. I want to try and mold the tabs without having to cut the corners. I want the tabs be to continuous.
Here it is cut out. I rounded the corners differently this time. Looks much better.
Here I start bangin the tabs through.
Using a piece of stell as a peg or something to shape the aluminum.
Ehhhh, so it didn't work. As you can see the corners tore. They didnt even test nicely. Cant use this piece anymore. I bet I could do it with heat though. I dont feel like doing that right now though.
So I made ANOTHER one. This time I cut the corners but just a little. The one on the left is the new one. See the difference? The old one you can see the cut corners. I didnt like that.
Old.
New.
Sweet.
New one in place.
Other side of hole.
Grill in place.
I'm tired. Going to bed. If I can that is,.... thanks for the monster blue! LOL.
Phew. 14 hours straight in the studio. Thats not a long time but it is or atleast it felt long. Got a lot done though! Check it out.
Mar-11-2007 (Blackout)
I drilled mounting holes and polished the pieces.
Installed thread-serts to the bottom piece.
Using a 6-32 tap to clean out the threads. I used a hammer to install the thread-serts. I really mashed them in there good. By pounding on them like this, the openings close a bit.
The two pieces bolted together. They line up perfectly. Took me a while to do this. I didnt want to screw it up.
Mounted to the case with filter in place.
Have to cut these bolts down a bit.
I sanded the bottom piece down a bit. It's a lot thinner now.
From the inside.
With fan box.
That just looks to cool.
Now. I need some wheel spacers for a bit extra clearence with that grill thingy I made. Soooooo,... going to use UV green acrylic. got these two peices from my scrap bin. Glued them together so they can be cut at the same time.
Used the router to cut a straight edge. Easy.
Used the scroll saw to cut off the excess.
Routered the rest of the edges.
Going to cheat/ take a short cut. I clamped the wheel base to the acrylic pieces and I am goign to use that to drill my holes. Going to drill the holes by hand so I will DEFINITELY need to step drill to prevent the acrylic from breaking.
After I finished the holes I polished the edges. I want as much light pouring through as possible.
All done. Well,.. not quite.
Filing away the acrylic wher eI filed away the aluminum. Easy.
Installed.
Lights out.
Lots of clearence now.
So nice.
Took the tape off of the fan box. I have to clean this fan box up a bit. Ehhhh,... I'll do that later.
Through the grill and lit up.
Hot.
SUPRISE! How many of you were waiting for this?
So,... I think I will be working onthe pump tower now. I dont think there is anything else I can do for the 5.25 bay right now. Pump tower it is. The Blackout gallery on my page is complete or up to date. Every photo I took of this project is posted there. I'm going to post the other worklogs for LEVO soon.
Mate once again u r a genious. Awesome work. I never get tired of reeding this. Keep it up.
wow this quite an extensive photo worklog.
doing stuff like this is my dream
I'm going through Blackout withdraw, its been a week! i I need my fix!!!!
Hey guyz. sorry about the delay. I moved and I had no internet plus I was really busy. I still dont even have a decent net connect right now. I'm working on it. Here's a nice update for you mod junkies,...
Mar-28-2007 (Blackout)
Old pump tower.
I need the new one to reach from the top of the case to the bottom of the case. Thats long.
Large sheet of 5052 aluminum.
Jig sawing a piece off,...
Here's the peice after routering the edges to sizes and taping and drawing all the lines.
Long as hell.
Here a paper mock up of what I need.
Old pump tower with pumps. And a hose. Before I continue I need to figure out where on the new tower the pumps will be. I have to make sure they clear everything and they just look nice.
Now,... what I want to know is what the hell was I thinking before? I mean look how close these pumps are. The hose would of been right up on the old shields. I dont know. Maybe I didnt care. Well,... I care now so things are going to change.
Hmmm,....
Old shields. Whats the overal height of this thing or depth.
Uhhhh,.... I dont know. I cant tell you what the height was because I cant remember and you cant make it out in the pic,... just wanted to show you that I was measuring with a ruler.
The new shields or covers I want to look somewhat like the hdd rack covers. The old shields broke the whole look in my opinion. What I dont know about is whether of not I like the stacked look of the pump shields and the tower. How the shields sits on the surface like that,... leaving a seam. I dont like that.
Hmmmm,.... how long should I make it?!?! *ponders*
New pump covers. Notice all the numbers. It took me a good day to figure them out. I mean I was tired as hell and on any other day it would of took a lot less time but these numbers are for bending 1/16" aluminum over a specific pipe with a diameter of 1 - 11/16. This is how I know how long the sheet should be before bending. This is so that I can cut out all the design work and then bend knowing the after the bend the height and length will be right on. You just cant bend in this type of situation. Shut up tribal. Move on,...
WHAM! Works! Except I messed up the length. It's to long but all the numbers work! Dead on.
Now,... I want this new tower to be narrower then the last one. About a 1/2" actually. To do this I have to cut away the teeth or whatever the hell they are on the pump rings. This is will save me more then a 1/4".
Done. This actually looks nice.
Alright,... aluminum for the pump covers. I'm gluing them together so they can be cut together.
The tower and the covers.
The cover design. Notice the top hole is two circles. This is because that hole will be just in the bend. The bend will reshape the hole. I'm making the holes longer to accomodate the slight positioning into the bend. What you see there is and 1/8" offset. I changed it to 1/6"(gut told me to do it) and thats what was needed.
Tape cut away.
Pulled apart and filed.
Ready for bending.
Bending.
Damn thats good **** right there.
Thats just so perfect.
You see that!!! exactly 4 - 5/8" long!!! Which means,...
Oh ****,... I though I took a pic of the height too? What the hell? Anyways,... the height was exactly 2-1/6". That **** is so on I was practically peeing on myself out of excitement. So! here are both of them! Practically the same!
It's late as hell. I think I'll stay home fromthe studio today and go tomorrow. ****.
this case is really inspiring a project i have coming up
thank you tribal for bein so kickass
You really are a bit good with the 'ol metalwork.
Thankz guyz! You da best!
Hello boys and girls! My name is TribalOVERKILL! Today kids,... I'm going to teach you how to accidently cut of your finger! YAY!!! WHOA. I'm back. Don't know that the hell that was but ok:) Got an update! It's a tiny one though. But it's all good.
Apr-17-2007 (Blackout)
4,... 4" x 4-58" sheets of lian-li aluminum. They are paired. I'm using the old lian-li aluminum that was left over from when I cut out my a window for a v2000. That was before this case.
Ok. Here are the side shield panels for the pumps. Looks just like the HDD one except this one is a stubby version. I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out whether or not I want to use the same design and,.... I did. Want to try and keep the look going. It's all drawn out with tape cut away.
Center punched and step drilled up to an 1/8".
First one all cut out and now its time for the second one. This lian-li aluminum is a harder alloy then what I use. So it's takes a bit longer to cut because it's a bit more of a pain in the arse to cut. It's a bit thicker too.
Both all done with the scroll saw. Time for filing.
To save a little bit of time I used the table sander to shape what I could.
Not quite done filing yet but almost. I gave up. Was to tired to carry on.
I've been there in the studio from 3am till 4:30pm. Spent a lot of time just cleaning up the place. There was s@#$ everywhere! I also did some rearranging too. blue-fusion is going to be working in there too on his project. I pulled the table out from the wall so it can be used on both sides. I movedd all my tubes and stuff I had on that side of the table into the other room with the rest of the material. I like it now. More work room. Peace.
Just wanna say that your Casejunkies trophy was realy amazing!
For the people who think "where the ... is he talking about? Well:
The left one.
Did you win it? The Tomb Raider case won first place but I dont know who that guy is? Is it you? That trophy reservoir is HOT! I so didnt want to give it up! I took 15 million pics of it! I have some videos too. It is by far the best reservoir I have made yet! I have to make another variation of it or something. God I miss it so much:( I still have to post the worklog for it. My connection to the internet is like retarded at the moment. Cant figure out why I cant connect by cat 5. I'll figure it out and will eventually show how it was made.
I know who you are now,... you did chemical industrial. Thats a nice computer man. I loved the shape of that thing. How it sinks in instead of just having flat sided like a box. I think you did an awesome job on it. Question,... did you weld that frame together yourself?
Ferry kept a worklog here at TBCS. :)
-Dave
PHEW!!! IM BACK AGAIN! Was busy. I got an email from Thadeez about sponsoring the casejunkies live case modding contest. he asked if I could dish out a custom reservoir trophy for the contest. So I did. Thats what I have been doing with my time. That and I had no connection to the net but networking PC's blows. Anyways,... more about the reservoir trophy in my levo log. But for now this is what I have been doing for blackout,...
Apr-19-2007 (Blackout)
And there you have it! Isn't it GREAT! HA HA HA YEA!
Ok! Here's a REAL update! I know this is the S@#$ you guyz really want to see,...
Apr-24-2007 (Blackout)
Skipping around a bit,... I made the brakets to hold the pump shields together,...
UV GREEN TIME! Here I'm molding a piece of uv green acrylic to the inside of the front pump shields.
Fun. HOT.
Drilled out the hose holes with a hole bit. You see the messed up looking hole? that hole is into the bend,... wasnt a good idea trying to pass the hole bit all the way through. It wasnt drill evenly because of the bend so when some of the bit passed through it caught the left over acrylic and spun that s@#$ out of my hands. It scared me:(
Good ole dremel to clean everything up nicely.
I tapered everything on the acrylic so you cant see it around the edges of the aluminum.
You see the tapered holes?
Time for the side shields,... i cut these pieces to just cover them.
Clamped the acrylic to the shield and drilled out the mounting holes.
I installed bolts to hold them all together for shaping and whatever,.....
Took all of the panels to the table sander and sanded away the excess.
Next,...
A cool update!
Apr-26-2007 (Blackout)
I scroll sawed all the little details out.
Everything sanded down nicely.
LIT UP!
With a little bit of light in the room. The shields havent bneen polished yet. I want to finish the new pump tower first.
Ok,... so today I will be going to the studio and I will be there all night working on this. I will be working on the new pump tower so I shold have some more good photos for you guyz to droool over. Peace out.
It's good to see you're still working on this, great work as always tribal!
hey ive been reading though you worklog now very nice work being done and some nice camera shots to i like how you take lots of pictures. and i love your idea i cant wait to see this finshed so hurry up! haha just jking. i really like ur last update the acrlic looks great with the metal on it.
offtopic: sorry this is off topic but i noticed you got your nipple periced and was just wondering if that hurt?? and does it get caught a lot?
im thinking of getting my nipple periced but cant decied.
also that throphy you did for case junkies was very stunning.
Dude,... I got BOTH my nips done man and HELL F@#$%ING YEA THAT **** HURT!!! All I have to say is that if your going to get your nippies done that you get BOTH done. Getting just one is gay as hell. Not really "GAY" but rather corny. Also,... empty your bowels before you get them done because there's a good chance you'll **** yourself. Thanks for you comments man:) About to update again. That is for this log and Im going to post the log for the trophy too.
Damn. I slept most of the night in the studio. Was so tired. I didnt get enough sleep before I went. But when I did wake I did get some done.
Apr-29-2007
Here are the bracket I made insalled the to the front shield.
Looks cool.
Here's a pic of the brackets being way the hell off! How this happened I dont know,...
You see how high up the front shield is with the side shields? Its suppose to be down a bit more then that. Maybe by an 1/8". I have to make new brackets. Damn.
New brackets. Cut, filed, and sanded.
Bent.
Threadserts installed.
Ok. You see the difference now? The one on the left is the right one and the one on the right is the wrong one.
Big difference.
All fixed.
Next time I got to the studio I will be working on the tower.
off topic again:
arrr you scared the **** out of me already man but i really want it done i do only want 1, im just really scared it would get ripped out as i go into a lot of mosh pits and at work i work with boxes most of the time and a lot of the time use my chest to sur[ort the box im carrying and that would ****ing hurt with a new nipple pericing.
also ill just post this here nice worklog on the trophy that thing looks ace!.
Mosh pits I would worry. Peircing get torn out in there all the time. Anything else I wouldnt worry. Oh, girls,... watch out for them. They like to pull on them. Sometimes they dont realize how hard their pullin. But i havent had any problems. Why you only want one? Two is just that much better. Trust me. Get them both done same day. You'll be fine.
