Cheap Water-Cooling Idea

Okay, first of all i want to say that there are many ways to cool your pc. You can try using alot of fans, Heat spreaders on certain components, water-cooling, or having no case at all- http://www.extremetech.com/slideshow...1&po=10,00.aspAnyways...water-cooling is a big fad right now, but probably too expensive to be practical for an average desk top. So i was just wondering as usual and i came up with a cheaper version of a WC system. Here it goes: basically you have two PVC pipes, a 1-inch tube placed inside of a 3-inch tube.The bottom is covered and the space between the two pipes is filled with cooling liquid. Top cover has a hole (x2) looking down into the liquid-filled gap and a 1-inch hole looking into the 1-inch pipe. Now, to cool the liquid, you take a tube,with a cover at the bottom and a removable top lid. you fill the tube with ice and slide it into the small tube. To pump it around, use a small electrical pump hooked up to the hole looking into the gap.
p.s. if this sounds like a bunch of jibberish, i might try to make a blueprint

that picture is VERY small. i cant make it out at all. i sort of understand what you're talking about though, and it doesnt make any sense. from what i can understand you have ice water in the inner pipe, with a pump on it, and a larger pipe with some holes in it. the big pipe has no function..... unless ive read it wrong. are we maybe talking about a different style of radiator here? that is the only reason you would have a contraption like this. even then, you wouldnt want pvc.

OK, as far as i understand... Its a reservoir, with an inner chamber you can fill with ice to cool the coolant. Its not a bad idea, maybe acrylic would be better than pvc.

Another thing would be to have a mini fridge coil in the inner chamber and have the compressor and heat exchanger outside of the case.

Your 72x42-pixel blueprint is shallow and pedantic...

From trying to understand your description, your building a tube inside a tube. The inner tube will be filled with ice and a little shorter than the larger tube. Both tubes will be filled with water. The holes at the top are just designed to connect to the pump to move water from the outer tube to the inner tube, and the small gap at the bottom of the inner tube will allow the water to return to the outer tube, and that end of the tube (opposite the pump) will be on whatever you need to cool.

Is that anywhere near your idea?

And if it is, what happens when the ice eventually warms up enough to turn back into water (and stops being cold)?

You can make the image bigger by hosting it on a site that changes the size.
I use http://imageshack.us/ and I select the forum appropriat size.
Their program makes the image bigger or smaller without distortion.
