New to this and Need some Advice. Any would be appricated. I work a great deal of hours..So Im wanting to get into computers...New to this game Ive gone and am having one built for me. And Im wanting to know if its going to be a mean machine or what would be good upgrades for it in the future? its going to have a AMD 4600, a "Gigabyte motherboard",Dual Harddrives with SATA at 3.0ghz, and For the minute 1gig of ram with a CoolerMaster Mystique Case with Blue Led Fans. <Mind you this is all i know Ill have more detailed specs when I have the computer in my possession. The guy says my mobo will handle 16gigs of ram? SO not sure if thats absolutely awesome or what to expect. But Im going to use this for gaming. SO Im pretty stoked. Let me know what you guys think?

...16 GB of RAM? Sorry but I highly doubt that. The most a modern mobo can support is 8 gigs, 2 GB X 4. Even so, that setup would cost around $1000+ in RAM alone. Do you know anything else about the gigabyte motherboard?

Ask for the exact name and online links to the motherboard, processor, RAM, SATA hard drives, Audio/Videon Cards and case. Try to get as much information as possible. We can let you know if its good, or if you're getting ripped off.

And I'm sorry I didn't say this before, so Welcome to the Best Case Scenario.

UserX do you know this person or is it a computer shop?
Beware that if you have not seen each and every component that they say is going in this system, and have done a little reserch you could end up with a system with sub standard parts!

I have reparied many systems that were bought at these computer shops and I was shocked at how much the person gave for them.

Watch out for "Onboard" video this is where they try to save money.
No rig that I have ever built for myself or for friends has ever had an onboard video card.
Also find out if your getting a generic power supply this too is where they save money.
And it is one of the most important parts for system stability!

If this is what they are putting in save yourself some money and buy a Walmart PC because you will most likely be getting the same thing sometimes even better.

Granted you may have found a good builder just be careful.

    Hope this helps

I would get extra RAM if I were you, 1 GB isn't enough in my books.

What you say is not entirely true, this motherboard
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...e=GA-M59SLI-S5
by Gigabyte supports 16Gb of RAM, as do most if not all of the boards with the NF590 chipset. Although unless you are running WinXP-64Bit you'll be restricted to 4Gb anyways.

For a gaming rig I'd have to agree that 1Gb of RAM is just cutting it, I would recommend your first upgrade be increasing to 2Gb. More Spec's on the system would be good for us to advise you better. Try to get the following if you can :

    Motherboard: Make / Model Number
RAM: Make / Speed / Latency
    PowerSupply: Make / Model
    VideoCard: Make / Model

For $1500 you should be getting a pretty kick-ass gaming system, although personally I would have gone for an Intel Core2 based system a 4600+ should crunch almost any game provided your videocard isn't a bottleneck.

    Peace!

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+

(Not very knowledgeable about motherboards but anyway) ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe

    XFX PVT71JYPE7 GeForce 7950GT 512MB

RAM is not at all my strong my strong point, but if I were you I would hook myself up with a minimum of 2GB, to run games like Battlefield 2 smoothly on full graphic settings you need a minimum of 1.5 GB.

I figured this sound card was good enough:
    Audigy 4 SE Sound Card

I think this roughly is a kick ass gaming system (maybe up the sound card) for about 1050 bucks (not counting RAM and case).

Hope it guided you a bit in what you should expect.
