i got one of the original launch xbox and it finally gave up on me a few weeks ago. finally had a chance to open it up to clean up and reapply the thermal grease. now it works while i had it all torn apart, i'd figured i'd do a little modding...

Now THAT I like Did you do a full x-clamp replacement or just a re-application of thermal grease?

haha I like the window.
Nice mod! The window is hand cutted or CNC?
@Loki- hand carved but the machine shop that does parts for work has a cnc so i might have them do it if i find a shell....
@slaveofconvention- i replaced the x clamps with flat head screws and used a thine coat of arctic silver 5. i used this tutorial http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/263/1/
i figured, nobody is paying me to put their logo/brand on my xbox so i'll just put something i actually like haha.
That's not a bad idea for a 360. Nicely done
I did the same fix, but I'm now getting a persistent rrod error. Has anyone here tried to reflow the whole board?

If you try it, I can give you a full walkthrough on a reflow.
I'm ready to try it.. I want my Xbox to work again!!! !*(&^#@*(!^#!$%@
Xclamp did work for a few months for me, but it's a no go now. Research suggests it might be a bad contact on one of the ram chips, so I might just try the heatgun trick around the ram first to see if that's it.
I'm also going to clean and repaste the cpu and gpu.. there's a bit of overflow on there so that might be an issue.

You can also reflow it in an oven, which will do the RAM, CPU, and GPU. You have to heavily insulate the rest of the board though, so nothing melts.
