Some of the florescent lights backstage in the auditorium have a similar effect. I don't think they're meant to do that, though.

I think the exposed filament neon looks better.
I have a blue lightning tubes it is preddy boring, and in the long run unreliable.

Heh, plan for something like that for next mod, except it wont be so lighted and advanced. Saw a .gif image on one of BT's posters which no doubt makes any of us go "ooo i wanna do that i wanna do that next"
