    Default Project: Paradise Lost

I really do like the Kaypro mod, but something is in my head. Something big.
I had a flood of ideas hit me today. This is how I felt when I first created El Diablo. I want to make something horrific, I want to be a part of something evil. I have a pretty good picture in my head of what I want this case to look like, but I have no idea on the specs. The specs are not important anyway. Once I finish the case and get the swarm out of my head I can go back to the Kaypro mod. Even if the finished product sits empty, at least I'll know it's done.

It's gonna be black, it's gonna be red. There will be sharp things, there will be blood. There will be Inverted Pentagrams, skulls, devil heads, and body parts. It's gonna be different. It's gonna be a wasteland.

Here's the case. An old P2 system that I've been using to test cathodes, fans, etc.

    The face plate.

    The IO ports

    I pulled the mobo out

    The empty victim

Some wingdings that I'm gonna encorporate

    The panel for the window.

I got to work on the Primer.

    Then the black under coat.

Next, I played with how the faceplate may be set up after it's done.

Here's where it gets good. The whole case is pretty much going to be covered in expanding foam. I want the case to be bumpy and porous. I want it to look like what you'd expect if you ripped off someones skin. Think of the muscles, tendons, fat and all that blood. I've tested it on the original faceplate for El Diablo.

    Here's the original.

Then with the foam. I waited about 2 hours for it to settle.

Then I sprayed it with a mixture of black and red. The red goes on thick and the black undercoats and helps create the look of natural shadowing.

I think it turned out pretty damn good. Almost too good, it looks sick!

I'll start applying it to the case tommorrow.

I have a huge UPDATE. I spent the last 14 hours on this mod and I've accomplished lots! First just want to show you what the dried look of the "skinned flesh" is.

First thing I did was Primer the faceplate.

Then after 3 coats of black.

I added it to the case and let it dry.

Then I worked on another slot loading CD drive.

Next up was prepping the fan grill for the front blow hole.

    Dried.

And I wired the power and reset switches. These were the originals. I also cleaned the surface where I was putting the fan.

Then I cut it out and screwed the fan in.

The power buttons got a face lift. First with primer.

Then with red and clear coats.

Lastly I primered the skull and covered the eyes and nose with tape.

    And painted it black too.

    3 coats later.

Peeled the tape off. Looks great.

Here's where I marked off my screw placement for the skull.

I use a hole punch to divet where I want my drill bit to sit at. This way it won't slide.

    And I cut the holes.

Then I had to wire up his eyes so they could glow.

    And I screwed it down.

Here's a pic of the front mostly completed.

    And without the flash.

I still have to put a bit of the meaty blood look on the front. (1) To cover the exposed drive bay covers and (2) around the fan. In a couple of days I'm gonna start cutting the side panel.

I sprayed on the foam on the bezel.

And added the red! I'll be touching this up some more later with red, black and clear coats.

And I cut the saw blade in half for later.

Well, the front panel is all dry.

And I changed the way I wanted the panel window to look.

It's time to put my old Koolance to work.

But first it had to be gutted.

And the pump with reservoir needs to be removed.

Now that it's out what do you think I'm going to do?

    More tonight.

First for the day, I cut notches into the blade.

And set it on the panel to see how it would look.

Here's some of my extra parts. A fake chain.

And some misc. body parts (2 eyes, 2 finger tips, and an ear)

    Next up came the foam.

    Painted it black

Then red and added the parts.

Next up is the top of the case.

I added some blood to the blade. I just sprayed it into an empty spray paint lid and when I got enough, I dripped it all over.

So, last week I went to an online Halloween gift shop and bought some fake Femurs. They look pretty real and weigh about 1.5lbs each. I actually only need one so the other? Anyone need a femur?

As you can see I want to have a femur case handle.

I removed the finger tip in the middle of the side panel and moved one eye further to the top right. Hopefully this will break up the face I had going on there. That was a bit too cartoony.

Next I started on the top. First with the foam.

Then I attached the bone handle.

And after the foam dried I taped off the femur.

    The black went on.

    And the red.
