Default the EkszBox On A Diet

heh yes this is a xbox mod.... and b4 any flameage goes on... the stuff on it is strictly legal.... no pirated games... (cant run em anymore anyways) no micro**** software exploits or other BS used either.... this is a strictly legal system.. that ya'll can enjoy the few steps i have pictures of
the Basic Specs r V1.4 Xbox... with a TSOP flash... right now.. i am currently running the cromwell bios... (which again b4 i either flamed or banned or this post locked) is a strictly legal bios using none of MS's code to run linux on the xbox.

i also dropped in a 160Gb HD and 2 usb ports.. instead of havin the rly ugly xbox jewel on the top.. i opted to cut it all out.. and put a piece of frosted plexy in with 3 leds to light it up nicely.... the hole was cut out to 80mms... so i could use the fan grill to make it rly stand out.. i had done all this originaly jus to snazz it up....another addon i dropped in was a trimmed 80mm fan (LED blue) to increase airflow outa the box.... the puny lil 60 wasnt cuttin it... but it jus wasnt enuff this... this piggy needed a diet....
so i yanked the dvd drive, no need for it rly seeing as i can ftp everything over...and i chopped this bad boy down in a big way... have a look... sadly due to size issues... i havent found a place to put the usb back yet... tho i hope to figure out a way b4 i get my new fan for it... currently i have jus a 40mm fan on the gpu heatsink... so ima needa find a nice and powerful 50mm fan to suck the air outa the back.... im also tryin to get the right supplies to change my buttons lights from red to blue...

plz lemme know what ya'll think... sorry bout the crappy pics... blame my eyetoy...

Very nice. How are you still able to play games on it though?

i run multiple linux distros... dyne and gentoox mostly.. but im workin on BSD and ubuntu
i jus use the controller and on screen keyboard... nomore usb port makes me
kinda wish i hadnt cheaped out and jus did a TSOP flash... if i had kept a backup of the stock bios... and used a multibank mod chip.. i coulda set it up so i could use one bios for games and one for linux...
but i was cheap heh and wanted the best now... right now... lolz

so here is another update to all the work ive done... today went out to the source and picked up some parts (radio shack) grabbed 2 bright blue LEDs and 2 USB sockets...
other materials i got were things like sand paper... a sanding block and hot glue...

^^ PCBs for the wireless controller recievers.. red = 1st player. green = 2nd. ^^

^^ swapped out the 2 stock red and green LEDs and added 2 bright blue ones ^^

^^ new USB sockets from the inside ^^

^^ new USB sockets from the outside ^^

i still have yet to pickup some bondo sealer and primer but heh im gettin there.
so far this is all the work ive done...
but its not done yet.. not by a long shot...
your opinions would be greatly appreciated...
also.. im looking for input on a good color scheme...
if you would like to suggest one, please state the colors like such:

X = (which ever color your suggesting)
trim = (which ever color your suggesting)

any input would be greatly appreciated

    thnx

Ah, a slimbox. Seen a few of these over at Xbox-scene.

I love the internal wireless controller mod! Been wanting to do that for a long long time, but I'm still holding out on finding a few Logitechs.

I've also been thinking about doing a dual-Iceberq cooler mod too. Those heatsinks just aren't cutting it for my box. Does your box run hot too?

    31 Celsius CPU

    41 Celsius GPU
    ^^ under heavy load ^^

ye im looking for 2 iceberq 4 pros... but cant really be arsed to find them right now...
mine runs decently enough and i have yet to do the AS5 thermal paste swap
why the logitechs? i find the madcatz micro ones are very nice... light.. and comfortable
also the grips on them help alot when your going on a 36 hour gaming spree and your hands get sweaty
(dont ask... it involved lots of coffee and very sore thumbs in the end)
also i cant really complain about my intec micro... although the construction is kinda half rate (not the controller... the receiver)... it does seem to work very well once ya fix it up a bit... the biggest issue was stock solder joints breaking on the wireless receiver... but after fixin that it rly was very easy

I think that Diamond Plate vinyl would look good on there.
