Just wanted to say hello. I've never actually built a PC before altogether... but if I ever do, I'd like to make a neat custom job like you all seem to have here :-)

I'll be doing a lot of reading/lurking... and then flooding you with questions at some point. Thanks in advance for being kind!

Hello everyone I've been building pcs for several (million) years and have ended up with the inevitable masses of spares and cases so I thought I would make use of them using them in older games and arcade sims then I thought why not mod a few of the cases too which brought me here I'll no doubt ask loads of questions that have been asked many times before but please be patient with me while I find my way around the board

Hallo iedereen (= Dutch for hello everyone),

kinda new here, have been watching several of the high quality mods here for a while now and still got nagged about me not posting for the first time :).

First let me intorduce myself a bit. 28 Years old, single, live in the Netherlands, and i work at KLM as a Boeing 737 ground engineer. As a hobby I've been building and maintaining computers for quite some time now, just for the family (some people suggested i'd make it my profession, but I think i'd go crazy with all these people nagging about their computer problems) I do sometimes help friends solve small problems.

I've been "planning" or having ideas for a pc/case (watercooled) mod for a long long time (over 3 years) now, but i never got around building it due to

Buying a house (which costs money)
wrecking my bike (CBR600 F3 '97) Own stupid mistake (although the date on which it happened might have something to do with it: 6-6-2006, which makes 666 (for the not so numerical inclined among us: 666 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_the_Beast) ). Replacing it obviously also cost me money  O, in case you're wondering what the replacement is: CBR 600 F4i 2001
a year later somebody drove into the back of my car totally wrecking it. (Still haven't replaced it)

I took me a while to get my financial things back in order again, so i am proud to announce, this project will DEFINITELY start this year, even if i have to start on New Years eve!! :). How's that for a vague timeschedule :smoker:

Greetings.....Martin

Hi everyone, I've been lurking around here for a few weeks and reading about the amazing work and effort that has gone into building some of these awesome machines and decided it's time to join as I will be starting a new project which I would like to share on here as soon as some parts arrive.
I've built quite a few PC's before but only standard types, I've not attempted a complete custom build from scratch including building the case, I've got some ideas but if/how they will work I don't know yet so I will probably be shouting for some help soon;)

I'm a motor mechanic by trade (but no longer do it for a job) and motorcycles are my passion but I can't build bikes at the moment because I don't have a garage or even a small shed to use and as I get bored when I'm not making something I thought I would have a go at a PC build in the kitchen:rolleyes:
A little taster....it's probably going to be called "Paranoid" and there will be screens and cameras8)

Anyone interested in bikes my site is here (http://www.fazerfetish.eclipse.co.uk/)
I hope to be back soon,
cheers, Beta-brain.

Ello people.
Dunno what to say, hhhmmm. Well, planning on posting a few pics of my current system later, see if anyone has any ideas. Its the fifth case I have owned, It evolved from my Pentium 75, its like a broom with 4 new heads and 5 new handles, hard to tell when it stops being one computer and starts being the next. No original parts....

Well like many others this here is my first post. :bunny: So Hi all.

I am an extreme noob at all this building/ modding. Been a lurker here for (yikes) almost a year. Sorry I haven't said hi before.

Built my first system late last year (Antec 900) and saw posts all over the net about cabling mods. Found this site and Paul's (Crimson Sky's) guide on how to paint cases, so I decided to watch and read. Bought Paul's book. Really excellent read. Loved it.

Have started painting the inside of the case, all basic stuff so far. Fingerprints everywhere :( but I'm learning to leave the parts to dry before re-assembling. lol.

Am thinking of taking on something more adventurous next. So will no doubt be posting questions. I'll say sorry in advance.

Once again Hi everyone.

Cheers, Beta-brain.

Greetings and well met. I've been lurking 'round here for a couple years (ever since the Doom 3 mod) but never gotten round to posting. I've posted a bit here and there now and have been come to frequent the forums daily.

I built my first computer back in '94 when my 'rents gave me a 25mhz 286 that couldn't even hold Windows 3.1 and Word at the same time (remember the days of the 20 MB hard drives :dead:).

Anyway... i currently have the pieces of my next computer sitting on my dinning room table waiting for me to assemble. I also have in the plans a HTPC and a small mod for a game server. I just lack the place to build them. Need to clean out a shed so my wife doesn't kill me for running the dremel in the house .

I love this community and this website. There is a lot of creativity and expertise haunting these forums. I hope that my future projects live up to TBCS standards .

One question... how do i get an avatar or a flag next to my name?

Cheers and happy modding.

Hey guys, this is my first post here, Although I'm a frequent forum user (tlzone.net and x-h2o.com). I've been into cmoputers since a young age (although I'm still only 24). I've built my own system from the ground up and have added little tweaks here and there, the latest being my Thermaltake Armor case.
I joined mainly due to seeing Motorized Madness on mod-shop.net and then checking out his build threads here.
I have a mod of my own planned, just saving up cash to get the materials needed. Its going to be a Media Center PC, and to hlep it "blend in" to the living room, will be housed in self-made guitar PC case constructed of carbon fiber and acrylic. More on that when the build thread starts.

So, HELLO!

If you've done any kind of PC mod or have a nice set-up share some pics! It's a great way for all of us to gauge your current abilities. And unlike other forums, here at TBCS you will not be ridiculed for being new and/or having little experience. Hi my interest to join here is because I want to get myself acquainted with sufficient knowledge in working with photos in Photoshop. Practically I am a novice who has just commenced work in this field and want to expand the techniques in which I can produce work thats loved by everyone. There are a lot of things on my mind but before I can do that I need to know a lot about how to go about things in this specific software. Hope to get all the help and support that I need.

Currently I'm building a case mod soon to be posted, haven't finished yet, i'm missing some details but, as soon as I get some free time from work i'll post my entire worklog and finish what's left to do ;)

ok, i've been around for a while (back before the forum got a face lift), but never an active poster, so i figured i might as well post here. the Doom 3 case is what made me join the forums and inspired case modding. the first case mod i did (i think my friend [guitar.child] and i may have posted pics about two years ago) was mounting a 12" desk fan on the side of my friend's old steel RaidMax case. my current rig is in the Your Mods section, check it out if you haven't already.

I googled for an answer on whether or not I could tie a D-Link EBR 2310 wired router to a WBR 1310 D-Link wireless router to feed separate PCs. When I did so it gave me a choice of one of the postings on your site. I am 61 years old and currently reside in a County nursing home in NYS. I worked in radio communications all my life and have had PCs since 1980. I just received a grant from a local foundation to install wireless access in much of the 500,000 ft.² of this facility. The maintenance staff and/or electricians will install it & I will be monitoring and assisting residents to tie in to it as they buy PCs for themselves. I have worked in public safety communications all my life and because I have owned about 20 PCs since my first Commodore Vic 20, I thought I might be able to help someone else from time to time.

Hello everyone, Uber-hippie here! I've been lurking around this site for a while and thought I should get it over with and say "Hi!"
The mods on here are a lot of fun to look at; hopefully I'll be able to join the ranks soon too. In the meantime, I'll just make an effort to be less lurky. =P

Hello Everyone,

I have been lurking around the site for a few weeks and love some of the work that the members have done. Im new to modding but have been tinkering with computers for a little while. Im definitely not new to art as Im kind of a renaissance man and hope to put some of my skills to good use. I have done a little bit of everything from painting to chain maille to layout designs to making halloween props. I have some pretty good ideas for some mods so you will probably see me around asking questions.

Greetings All,

After looking at the work that members are doing, I am almost embarrassed about why I was looking for a place from which to get some help on what will be shown to be be a ridiculously simple thing. I'll find the appropriate spot to post the question and will listening for the laugher that will be heard around the world. But, hey, I guess, you've got to start somewhere.

The work I have seen here is truly impressive.

It all comes down to real people who care enough to take time out of their crazy lives to make this place so special. My first case mod was "HALO" which only a few people here know about, it was over at the modshop until it closed earlier in september. My name is Chris, aka. ContraptionMaker, and I love to build things. My love affair with destructing, constructing and reconstructing stuff began when I was very young. When I got a new toy the first I did was take it apart to find out how it worked. Of course in my day toys were not quite so complicated but had lots more parts! I learned a lot from taking those toys apart though...some I got back together some I didn't but either way I had a lot of fun. Well I'm a lot older now but not much wiser, I still buy toys just to tear them apart. The difference is today I try to make them into something more useful or just unusual. Currently I am working on the "Spider House". I've been an AMD man for many years, and when the Spider platform came out, I just had to build one. I decided to theme my case to reflect the new platform. Since I spent most of my money on hardware my modding budget was limited but so far I'm happy with the results. I welcome any comments or suggestions from the far superior modders on TBCS!

Hello everyone,

I have been building my own PC's since the 90's, but it has always been stock cases, with stock parts. 4 years ago I saw some nice mods, but again were put together from mostly kits. Now that it it is time again to overhaul my four year old PC I came across TBCS, and I have to say, "Dam!" You all are inspirational! You make cases that are centerpieces, not foot warmers under the desk.

The other thing I see is a brotherhood where no matter what background you come from you help each other in a mostly positive way.

Thanks for sharing you excellent visions.

Hey all. I've been into computer's my whole life and several years ago I got sick and tired of buying store bought PC's, because of all the stuff on there that i didn't need/want so I built my first PC (in the agp era) It was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had, but the tempature warning alarm going off at the first start up pretty much freaked me out :) Turns out the heatsink on the cpu wasn't seated correctly. Anyway, Its time for an upgrade. MY previous mobo is agp only :\ I got all my parts (mostly) and just need to buy the final things. I took a look at everyones mod's and am very impressed, and just looking at the work logs, I learned a lot. I'm hoping to mod a case half as good as you guys. I'm not really big on tools but might be buying a dremel today. I look forward to lending any info I know or suggestions and look forwad to posting my progress. Thanks for having me :)

Hello everyone,

I joined TBCS because I like to make stuff. I have been modding stuff for a long time, since my first set of lego's I guess :)

I started modding computers about 5 years ago, but did not go farther then adding a window and top mounted fan to my crappy old case. About 6 months ago I got back into overclocking, and then water cooling, and then back into modding. I have not done anything to my computer but I made a water cooling box/stand for it I would like to show off. When I make some holes in the bottom of my case and the top of the stand then I suppose I will be modding. I am also starting a mod on my old case that I first put a window and fan in so many years ago. I will call it Mech Bay, and it will involve turning the computer into a water cooled hanger bay for my collection of mechwarrior and gundam models, when they are not out destroying the neighborhood

For now here are pics of my gaming rig and a mecha...

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f64/ken1971/IMG_0970.jpg

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f64/ken1971/Antec%201200%208_08/Antec1200007.jpg
Thats how my rig was about 2 months ago, before some water cooling naughtiness and the stand I just made in the last few days. I will be making a worklog for its progress towards something a little more custom and special. I shall name the project "Esuriant", because it is...

Woops, missed this thread before I started posting.

I'm Datech, right now I'm 19 years old and I'm a student at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, pursuing a Computer Engineering major. For the past few years I've just been into gaming and BYOPC, but soon I plan on starting a few case mods for family and friends.

Right now I'm working as an IT manager at a company of ~100 people. I like to see myself as a jack of all trades for the time being, as I have decent skills in a variety of different areas. Since my brother and I act as Tech Support for our family (as many of you probably do), and since I love creating things and using power tools (check out my hovercraft thread (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16714)) I have really been itching to get into case modding.

Hopefully I'll be an addition to this forum, and get some good knowledge from other members too.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm PCdeaf and yes, I'm really deaf lol. I'm currently trying to research on how to make a proper wooden case that can stores office supplies and look extremely business-like. Even though I'll be using it mostly for graphic design and gaming lol. It'll be a bit of a beast in term of sizes and non-PC features.

I'm having a bit of a difficulties trying to find info on wooden cases though. I'm currently learning how to use sketch-up and see if it is easier to use for basic mock-up than Blender3D (I'm a general beginner with modding, graphic design, and 3D modeling).

I had posted in the blenderartists.org forum about looking for a forum on modding that would talk about making a case from scratch here,
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=142178

Hopefully I can get all of the planning done soon and have my money ready by then for the entire thing. I'm planning to buy components and build up the entire PC the same time I make the case since all I have is a laptop (HP Pavillion tx1499us).

You can very easily build a wooden case without fear od electromagnetic waves running rampant and wrecking nearby devices.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=74847

cool :) thanks for the info and the links :D that is exactly why I wanted to try and find out the info by asking around here. that should significantly reduce the cost of the case since I wouldn't have to buy the extra metals to shield the interiors for this purposes.

I have more questions to ask but I'll post then in the rookie's nook

Hi all I've visited TBCS before to kill some time by gawping at some of the wesome projects that seem to be always on the go here but I've not seen the need to join until now...

About a year ago, just before the release of 'Pirates of the Burning Sea' I came up with a water cooled case mod concept on a theme that would perfectly complement said game. Unfortunately no ssoner had the idea made its way into a basic .bmp file I moved house to start a family and things have kind of spiralled from there (don't even own the game let alone have the mod done!)

Recently though I was inspired anew, most likely by some of the mods here, I recall spending a lot of time ogling te Temple of Nod case! So a month or so down the line I find myself with 90% of the materials I'm going to need, a working mockup of the system it'll be running and several more uber-basic .bmp images and I feel like it's time to dip into the community for some help and advice. This is an absolutely £0 budget scratch-build so I'm doing well to have got this far but I'm convinced I'm going to need a lot more than keen eyes for alvage to get me through the main body of the build itself!

So anyway this is my greetings post (modest aint it!) andnow I'm off to open a mod in progress thread, look for it under 'Swashbuckled' if you want to get involved, help me out or are just curious! Also I apologise in advance for all of the crapp spelling mistakes etc. I'm going to end up posting it's my keyboard's fault!!!

Hello, my name is Dagen and i have been in the PC repair and networking business for 15+ years now. I started modding with my first computer when i had to build something to mount my very first computer on. No case, just built brackets out of an old wood desk. I am learning alot from tis site so far and as i start to get some real projects underway ill postthem here.

Hey, everyone. I'm completely new to electronics. I'm electronically/mechanically inclined but have never finished a complete project of my own. I am looking for some guidance because I know what the end result is that I want but have no clue on how to wire the project.

I want to make a glass/canvas project with multiple LEDs behind it to illuminate it. I also want it to be powered by a battery pack. So the easiest way I can describe it is a string of LED Christmas lights powered by batteries. The project will be hung on the wall. That is why I would rather have it powered by batteries with an on/off switch either on the side, bottom or behind it.

I would also like the plug-in version if someone could help me with that.

BTW, I would appreciate LOTS of details. VERY new to electronics world but also VERY excited to learn. I look forward to receiving some help and thank everyone in advance.

Hello. My name is John Hanlon and I come from Colorado and Bit-Tech.net ( jhanlon303). I have done several mods in the past 10 years- 3 of which were nominated for MOTM on BT. I just won MOTM for November and I'm here looking for something for my next mod. I don't know what yet but there is some very nice mods here and some interesting links.
It is nice to see some old familiar logins here.

Well, just like the tons before me, I am new to TBCS.
A little background:
I started working on computers when I was about 10, and instantly fell in love with how they work and all the components involved in them. Fast forward 10-years, and I still love absolutely everything about them. I have recently discovered case modding, and am working on my first project. Nothing major, just a new paint scheme and cable routing etc, but look forward to working on bigger projects in the future.

I work for an industrial computer company which is really cool because we get all the latest and greatest components before they are released to the general public.

Lookin forward to learning as much as I can here.

Josh.

Well it's about time I actually posted here. I've been lurking for about a year. I am simply amazed at the talent that has gone into alot of mods on here. I've been around computers since... well lets just say I remember my vic 20 with b/w 7" tv and cassette drive . I'm not good with programming at all, but the hardware is more my speed. The system I'm currently using is a bone stock HP . Boss (wife) won't let me "fix" it til it breaks . Most reliable box I've ever owned :suspicious:. I have one casemod that will get posted when I can find the pic/specs for it named CheapSK8. I built it when I was laidoff last year so no money went into it. Currently laid off again with too many projects around the house to finish before I even think about starting another one. Not that it keeps me from getting ideas, especially after looking at what others on here are doing. I just keep looking at other thing that can be done using ideas from here. Well I believe I've rambled on enough for now.

I'm an IT pro during the day and a graphic designer by night, i don't mod pc cases much but i have done an XBOX360 controller mod, just a momentary switch wired to the right trigger for rapid fire in games like call of duty4 and halo3!

i really want to learn techniques so i can start modding like a pro!

Hello all! I've joined the ranks of case modding finally. I've been building custom systems for years, but now want to start with a case. What case may you ask..and Ultra Microfly! As of right now, the mod is nothing serious (gotta start small). I want to start off by watercooling this rig, then from there, well, we shall see. I want to build a nice elegant lan box that packs a huge punch. I've always loved watercooling, so Figured Id give that a try with this one! Anyone else watercool a microfly?

your not addicted until you get called into the office and get asked wtf TBCS stands for by your boss,

You then get a bolloking for viewing TBCS when your supposed to be working, Then the boss that just gave you a bolloking gets you to fix his sons PC as he now knows you know what your talking about unlike the script kiddies that try to fix errors but fail.

not that any of that was about me

Hey up! I've joined in hope that I'll be able to get help with making my first mod and keep a blog of it. Thought I should do so while I have a job and some money for it. Im into medium range gaming and constantly filling my computer with useless junk. When I say medium range gaming I've got a 2.5 Dual core, 8500GT card & 2GB valueRAM. Nothing special but it runs UT3 smoothly.
Im hoping to be able to buy a case that I can modify to basically be a UT3 billboard lol. Black and bloodsplattered with a window. Sounds simple to you guys sounds like a mammoth task to me.

Look forward to speaking to you guys!

visited this place many times over a few years and been well impressed with many pieces and over the past year been really getting in to modding, started with simple blowholes, then detailed windows, and now what has to be the ultimate in modding being fabrication, have made 2 chassis from sheet alluminium and seem to be getting better with each one and enjoy it quite a lot, i have learned quite a bit from peoples worklogs here and there is always new things to learn, i did not do a work log of my 1st but started my worklog half way through my latest, and am planning on doing another soon, i'll post pics in a bit:banana:

I can understand how these things can get expensive but i like to keep my hobbies cheap! Im still only 15 so i still have school to do but i imagine a lot of people here do as well.

A surprising number of us here are around your age and most of us have school and/or jobs. It is possible to mod without spending a lot; it just depends on what you want to do. You should post some pics of your work here.

I've recently been watching a lot of old episodes of The Screen Savers just for kicks, and I saw a segment about some mods from The Best Case Scenario so I decided to come check it out. Hello all,
Just thought I'd introduce mahself. I have built PC's for some coworkers, just usually basic stuff, maximizing the performance while limiting the impact on a wallet. I am working on my own rig, called Mark1, and have been for a few months now. Alas, I too suffer the woes of being, well, broke.
I am by no means as advanced as a lot of the people on here, but I get by :D. So far, I have;
Lexa Blackline Case,
eVGA 790i ftw with digital PWM,
Intel QX9770,
LG GGW-H20L,
Tagan BZ 1100w psu.

And thats about it so far. I plan on doing some (in my opinion) severe modding to the case. I am going to be running,
(2) GTX 285 ftw,
Koolance Exos 2.5,
at least one tv tuner card,
WD raptor 320gb,
(5) WD 2tb HDD,
and of course a few other things.
When I have the money for more parts and more modding, I'd like to start a project log. As it is now though, progress has somewhat stalled.
So there it is, and there I am. I'm happy I found this site, it has so much fantastic stuff on here. I'm very excited to be a part of this community. And if anyone else is in Phoenix, hit me up! Now we can start the bashing on my processor and for using Koolance. Oh well.

I've come over here from bit-tech.net, where I hung out infrequently for a few months. The mods housed there were quite interesting, but I didn't like the rapidly growing commercialism and the general tone. I'm also a pretty active over at the xkcd forums, same nick.

List of mods so far (nothing major at all):
Dremel-ing in a window, lights, fanswap, sleeving
Turning an ATX PSU into a bench supply
Making a USB deskfan out of a casefan and some housing wire.
HDD art, acrylic cover on still spinnable drive.
DIY letter opener out of some plumbing and an old heatsink.

As of now, I'm a 17-year-old student who likes to put things together in his spare time. I'm designing a acrylic scratch-build for the summer, may post plans soon.

I'm not "new" per se, but I went inactive for about a year after my interest sort of sputtered out temporarily. I actually have a reasonable shot at doing something soon-ish, though, so I decided to get back in. Haven't modded anything before, but I'm comfortable using tools and building computers, so I thought I should give it a shot.

I was inspired by seeing the case mods that I had to jump in and be a part of this community. I don't have a great imagination, but There seems to b a lot of inspirational mods to give me a idea or two.
http://speedingcomputer.com/2007/11/custom-computer-case-mods/---- this is the site I was at when I found your community. I would like to thank them and you for sharing your ideas. Jamie

My name is Bruce and I've been fooling with computers for roughly two decades. Caused some damage at first; delete *.* does delete everything. I've been building PC's since 2002 and have built many for family, friends and even my in-laws. It's my first post but I've been lurking here for over a year. Finally decided to join since I'm starting a project shortly.

I've done a couple of small case mods in the past. First one I did was cutting the Yankees NY symbol into a case, placing Plexiglas behind it and lighting the case up with blue cold cathode tubing. Second modded case was an Antec Aria, which I never finished due to a small fire inside the case. Oops. Long story short, sparks and paint thinner.

I'm sure I'll have questions and judging by what I've read I'm guessing you guys will have answers.

Cheers
Bruce

Hi folks,

Have enjoyed browsing the work logs over the past few weeks, I stumbled across the site whilst looking for images of interesting case mods and quality looking case mods, scratch built cases mainly for some inspiration.

After buying me some upgrades at christmas I had a spare PC, It has a Radeon X850XT ICEQ, pretty top end when bought a few years back. This card is UV reactive but even with a case window you could never get the benefit as the face of the card pointed to the floor. So, I decided I'd make a case to show the card being UV reactive. This led pretty quickly to deciding to have the motherboard lying flat but with the components underneath, with transparent perspex around 3 sides and the top. Another main requirement was portability but this is fast going out the window!

The computer parts all over the garage casued A parking problem (I love scrap and had 3 or 4 dismembered PC cases spread across the floor) so I modded the garage with a nice work bench at the end and a spot of rearranging. Now I have the basis of my workshop :)

Looking forward to getting a worklog going, just need to view some more sketchup tutorials and get a complete design down.

Nice site btw, hope this isn't too lengthy a first post, got carried away.

Hey guys :D

I saw this forum site on google, after looking for a place for Case Modding tips. And well this site is AWESOME :lick:

I am 14years old. I have built two computers from scratch and upgraded another, and have good knowledge of computers - hardware & software related. I haven't done an major modding to my machine, just some blue LED fans and thats about it.

I have some unusual idea's for case mods, but sadly being underage to get a proper job - and not being able to get a job ANYWHERE () i never have money to fund my projects. But when i start earning (a year or so time from now) i will definetly start my projects.

So i will be posting my idea's and blue prints for my projects, on the forum.

Dan :D

(Personal Note - Need to save up money to get a good dremel )
