Stealth 360 power?

As some of you might know, I am planning on doing a completely stealth Xbox 360. (Modding addict+dead 360=?????+Profit)

What I have gathered:

360 power has 12V and 5VSP.
Add 5V to PowerOn to turn on brick.
ITX MoBo has 12V, 5V, 3.3V, PowerOK (believed to be 5v), -12v.
Short ground an PowerON to turn on.

The easy part would be 12v-5v and 12/5v (either way)-3.3v transformers. Hopefully small enough to fit in the case.


The trick is, a) where would the transformers be FS; b) How would I go designing a relay that adapts 360 power on to ITX power?

make sure u have a first gen power brick.. if u dont.. trade it...find one

The first Xbox 360 (Xenon) needs a 203W power supply. Falcon needs a 175W power supply but can also work with the 203W unit (it just doesn't need to draw that much power so the 203W unit is overkill, but it'll work). Jasper needs 150W but can work with a 203W and a 175W. In other words, the Xbox 360 power supplies are forwards but not backwards compatible.

I would just get a Pico-PSU or similar. They're designed to take 12V in and handle everything that you need, and they just plug right into the ATX socket. They come in up to 160W versions, but there are similar PSUs further down the page that can go up to 250W.

My thinking was that you use the 12V input from the Xbox PSU to power it instead of the intended PSU. The pico-PSu would just handle all the voltage conversion and direction stuff.

The problem is, 12v is a non-constant-on from the PSU.

I can't just hook up the "green" lead to the brick on the brick; IIRC, someone tried it, and it wouldn't power up.

I don't want the brick always-on, nor do I want to unplug it to turn it off, as that defeats the stealth.

OK. Maybe I can bypass the 5vSB on a 12v-converter psu without any problems.

So, the trick would to be designing a relay (or something like that) that allows me to turn on the main brick.


More I have gathered:
ATX PSU actually sends a tiny amount of voltage to sense turning on.
So, that would mean MoBo closes some sort of relay to turn on.

So, I could keep 12V green shorted, hijack the MoBo green lead to the relay, remove 12v psu 5vsp, tie 360 5v into MoBo.

Just did a mental diagram. The 360 brick sucks power to turn it on, as does the MoBo
