Wow, that's impressive. Do you what the name of the company was?

Carbon fibre clockwork bird? HELLS YEAH! That is pretty awesome. Pretty low power consumption too. ...can anyone say bird spy drones? (Yes, yes, I know, we've had them for a while...)

TMM, it's a group at a company by the name of Festo. Here's their site about the project.

Thanks for the link. For those who are interested, Festo has a making-of video on their website that explains a lot of what they needed to overcome and how they did it. It's a bit long but well worth the look.

looks like the battery was dying after a few minute flight, but i had the video muted so i couldn't really hear what he was saying about the bird.

He said it consumed about 25W during takeoff/etc, ~18W while cruising. For something that big, that's pretty good, compared to prop-planes. They probably just put a very small battery in it to conserve weight. Though, ooc, what was it that made you think the battery was dying? I didn't get that impression at all.

I'm really trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be impressed by. There are lots of RC ornithopters out there, like . . . lots. This one has a few different features and design solutions that are interesting, but nothing that seems leaps and bounds above or beyond what's already existed for a long time.
