They know when you've pirated something, and very rarely (if ever) does the anti-piracy measures get in the way of the non-pirates.
Besides, the stuff is (usually) cheap (for most).

Most I've paid for a game is $20. Twice.
First time was First Decade. (but that's several games in one)
Second time was Minecraft (when Notch got married). Great deals on both.
Two years. They were great. Let's make the next ones even better!

I'm still waiting for the Spore everything pack to be $20 on Steam . . . by the time it happens I'll just be over Spore completely.

I think you are getting this backwards. The anti-piracy measure almost never hurt the pirates, and almost always hurt the people who bought the game.

True, true. If we're talking about steam, then I've never been let down.

However, I almost always see some story in the news about DRM servers going down (which force players to be connected 100% of the time they are playing a single player game) and 1000s of fans being incredibly angry about not being able to play or their progress being lost, despite the fact that technologically their progress could have been saved locally, or the fact that they aren't able to play a game they legally purchased.

Steam is like this only a little bit, and again, I've never had any issues ever playing my games on Steam.

So, yeah, I know Steam is DRM, but it's been the most convenient way to buy and play games I've ever used. And . . . even if I buy games in the store, many of them force me to create some account on some idiotic sytem/server/store thing, which is really irritating.

I'm not going to get out my hook and eyepatch, but these sort of things really make me want to. Instead, I just choose to never play those games.

I have to agree in regards the DRM - I don't pirate games, and in retrospect EA did kinda do me a favour, but when I bought C&C4 I couldn't play it for the first 10 days because the DRM servers were down - after 10 days, it sucked the big one, but I shouldn't have had to wait 10 days to find out how awful the game I bought retail actually was....
Publishers have every right to protect their work but when that protection inadvertantly penalises the legit customer base, they need to rethink it

Completed Projects: General Lee | Synergy Green | Liquid Yellow

    C&C4....

    I never bought it.

    Glad, too.

My friend bought it, and was thoroughly annoyed by the spam *cough* (I mean the live chat) bar in single player, and the fact that you needed to be online to play.

That trend annoys me to no end. Why do I need an internet connect for a single player game! :/

I tried to play Dragon Age on my 360 once without internet and it wouldn't launch the game. Like, that's not even an online game in any regard... And of course, it's made by EA.

    Red Alert 2?
    Made by Westwood.
    Published by EA.
    One of my favorite games.

    Red Alert 3?
    Mainly EA
I don't know. Heard it's possibly better than 2. Then again.....

    C&C 4?
I think EA missed a spot where the idioticy wasn't cleaned up from where it exploded.

    I know it has.

I just bought it when it was $11 a copy, that's all.
