I would imagine it would be. These are designed for web surfing, Facebooking and reading ebooks. Not for gaming, graphics intensive programs or things like that. It will do video, web, and similar things well but anything beyond and I think it will slow to a snails pace.

I know the new Evo phone has a 1GHz proc, but how much RAM? That would be a good way to compare it.

Put it this way, my Motorola Dext has twice the RAM. Is it slow? Sort of, because of the fact it doesn't fully close programs, it eats up RAM like nothing else, however I've had it play movies fine. Currently it's been returned for repairs (the screen developed a crack which seems to be a manufacturing fault) but I'll be testing it more vigourasly once it gets back.

But yeah, these things are designed mainly as eBook, web surfing, etc. Nothing too heavy. Although the aPad has a DSP (apparently) so it can decode upto 720p. Although with the resolution of the screen, it's not really an issue.

I ordered 2. One from each of the two main companies I saw.

One has a 600MHz VIA proc, 128MB RAM, and a 2GB HD (SD expandable to 32GB) (White)

The other is a 600MHz proc, 256MB RAM, and 2GB HD (SD expandable to 32GB) (Black)

    I'll do a side-by-side review in August

OK. One came from China and the other from California. I actually got the China one first.

This will be in my review too

I played with the China one for about an hour. i was trying to plug in my network password when the screen got real fuzzy and black. It reminded me of the old Starry field screensaver from XP, but darker. That's it. I think it's dead. I just sent the seller an email.

The one from CA seems to be fine. The battery was dying, but it did let me enter in my network password. The screen isn't all that responsive. It even has a touch screen calibrator, but that doesn't really help. The on screen keyboard is kind of annoying too. You have to switch between letter and number entering screens. It has an SD card slot which I put an 8GB card into with about 80 songs on it. There's a lone speaker on the back that's actually not that bad in my living room. It also doesn't know it's not a cell phone. I guess that's the problem with putting Android (a Cell phone OS) on a computer. When you make a setting change, it reports back as 'saving changes to your phone'. Weird.

The most annoying aspect, one which will kill it for me is that fact that there is only one way to scroll through your files. You have to slide your finger across the screen to have all your files move. Usually this is the cool part of having a touch screen, except the responsiveness is horrible. EVERY DAMN TIME it thinks I'm selecting an item. It might move a little, but then instanly grab the last thing I touched. I was scrolling through my music and it kept selecting the last song my finger grazed and started playing it.

There will be more, I'm sure. I think I see why an iPad seems sooo much better, but like 5 times the price.

Or maybe just a product that was developed in its own right, not just thrown together in a week as a clone of a new device?
