    Default memory prices?

so I just happened to be browsing microcenter, and thought I'd see how much some DDR-400 is for Red Comet. HOLY ****

    $90 for 2GB of DDR-400!?

They have a 2GB kit of DDR2-800 for only $55!

how does that make any sense?

DDR is older, less in manufactured, and that's buying something like a 2x4GB kit of DDR2, since it's the biggest unregistered modules that they make (that I know of).

I ran into this problem with an older socket 939 board I had. Your best bet is to find someone selling them used. On here is usually a good place to find deals.

/\ These. They don't make it nearly as much anymore, so it's expensive. Try looking for some SDRAM and it gets even worse...and don't even think about buying RDRAM.

I had to special-order a new RAM module for my old Toshiba Libretto 110ct a few years ago, and it cost me, iirc, a bit over $100...for 32MB.

RDRAM went down in price a ton in the last year or so. It costs about 1/4 what it used to on ebay now.

So now it's only what, 2-4 times what DDR2 costs?

I guess it's hitting the other end of the curve where the demand is shrinking faster than the supply.
