    Default Project: Urgentfury

So I figure since I'm actually planning on doing some things to my case, I may as well take the time to make a thread on here.

There is no ultimate "end" plan here, this is simply a deposit box type thread for any and all modifications i make to my computer.

It's been largely unchanged since I purchased it, with the exception of cleaning up the cables a little bit, which I did all of about 45mins ago.

    pics of that:

    before

    after.

i also just placed an order with Xoxide to pick up two new 120mm blue LED fans to replace the black rear fan and the burned out top, a blue SATA cable to replace the orange one, a silver round-style IDE cable to replace the ribbon, and a 12" LED light bar, because cold cathodes blow. Going to install the LED bar on a rocker switch so I can turn it off (or on) at night depending on what I want.

The only other plan/idea right now is to cut a custom window for it out of plexiglass and replace the left side mesh paneling with a window. I never really use the side-mount fans and I would love to be able to see in to my case again, like I could with my old CM Cavalier.

Well between trying to decide what CPU and GPU to buy, I figured to hell with it and just settled on buying a new system entirely.

Pretty much the only things staying are going to be the PSU, two of my hard drives and the case.

This is all tentative, but right now this is the specs of the system I'm looking to build:
Intel Core i5-2310 2.9GHz Quad Core
    ASRock H61ICAFE ATX motherboard
    Kingston HyperX 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1333 RAM
    eVGA GeForce GTX550Ti
    Seagate Barracuda 1TB 6.0GB/s 3.5" drive

thoughts? It's going to be replacing a C2D E4500 2.2GHz dual core, some MSI motherboard, eVGA 7800GT, 2gb of PNY RAM and an 80GB IDE drive.

Specs look good Look forward to seeing it...whatever you are building is gonna be better than the C2D

Looks like a good setup. How many Watts is your PSU?

Yeah, seriously. I don't do a ton of gaming or anything but having a computer with technology from this decade would be nice. Plus I'm sure Win7 wouldn't mind running on a little more horsepower.

850W, it's a really slick cooler master unit I got for christmas a few years back. The casing is like a dark black chrome kinda thing. It looks super rad, shame I don't have a case to show it off.

I was planning on getting a modular PSU but with a full ATX case there's plenty of spaces to hide my cables in so that's not really a big concern anymore.

A picture of the PSU in question, not the best pic but I assure you the psu looks awesome.

aaand the other side of the case. all but two of the unused wires were able to be shoved between the PSU and the back of the case. It's not the most elegant solution but it works. The two that run around the back then towards the drives are my molex and SATA-power connections. as it is now, there's only one SATA power connector but when I get my new HD that'll change.

I'm also debating cutting out holes for the power connectors when I put in the new motherboard. On one hand, it would look a lot slicker from the front, but the back would look arguably worse and it's not like I have many cables showing in the first place.

But your side panel would be covering most of it anyway...if not you can use some foam and velcro to cover that stuff up then, when you open the side panel to show the backside, you just see - nothing...lol

I just wanted to be sure you had enough power since it came from an old system.

yeah, it was way overkill when I got it but it's got plenty of capability to power the new system. it was certainly a top-end PSU when i picked it up.
