Let's say you won a large sum of money. Approximately $150,000,000 USD (after tax).
What would you do with it?
Hypothetical question time!
Let's say you won a large sum of money. Approximately $150,000,000 USD (after tax).
What would you do with it?
that's easy.
throw a few mil at a charity, something good like the aspca.
throw a few bucks to family. then a few more bucks to friends.
put enough away to live on forever if i do something stupid and loose the rest.
then the shopping spree commences. i'd buy up all the houses on my street and then hold lawnmower drag races.
oh yeah, i'd go and buy 1 of every model of supra produced and a toyota stout pickup.
then i'd start looking into some property where i could start up a miniature dog fighting club because i think a chinese crested all tattooed up would be funny!
then i'd probably buy myself a wife.
I would do the things I've always wanted to do.
Build a great house.
Build the business(es) I've always thought would be cool.
Start a computer parts company.
Make stuff every day.
Have many kids and have a happy life knowing I can spend time with them whenever I want.
Travel and see the world.
Buy a large space of land so I can do flight tests (maybe build a house on it as well).
Buy a house in the area I am in currently (maybe build one that me and my partner like the design of)
Buy a couple of cars (Honda Jazz, Low end Ferrari)
Invest in a few things.
Buy a few things for my robotics/electronics research
Buy a few planes (and make a little bunker so I can charge LiPo batteries with minimal risk)
Pay off my father's debts and allow my mother to move away from my father.
Buy a horse for my girlfriend.
Buy raw materials for both me and my girlfriend.
Buy a couple of small scale CNC machines, small scale laser cutter and a small scale 3D printer
Upgrade the computers we have and make a file server
Then save the rest!

The investment in gold is a great idea.. Especially with current economic trends...
I wouldn't keep any in the bank. 150Mil generates a lot of interest, and that's taxable income, oh my brother.
Of course the ridiculous shopping sprees for my whole family. My kids would want for nothing, anymore.
So you'd rather have no income than taxable income? Even at just 1% interest, that would still be $1.5 million/year. Even if 50% is taken due to taxes, that's still a net income of $750k/year.
Anyways, what would I do? Hmm, let's see...
1) Pay off my house, my parents' house, and probably my sister's as well.
2) Pay off my remaining student loans and personal loan.
~$149,600,000 left
Ok, debt at 0. Now to make sure I have something to fall back on if I f*** up and lose everything.
3) Buy at least one nice property in a desirable location in every major city in the world, and contract with local property management companies to handle renting them out.
4) Invest heavily in Tesla Motors, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and Google, among others.
~$75,000,000 left
5) Drop the rest in an FDIC ensured, high-interest savings account, and use it to start my dream business: a combination makerspace, hackerspace, technical college, engineering and technology thinktank, and venture capital firm. Basically, stop complaining about the system being broken, and go out and do it the (imo) right way.
