So, some of you may remember my adventures with the Comcast banhammer. Or, rather, what I thought was the Comcast banhammer...
As it turns out, the first time you go over the limit, they give you a phone call telling that this happened, and not to do it again. Well, that or they can't reach you on your phone so they turn off your service until you call them. Now, that's all good, whatever, I can live with that. What happens next is the problem.
The second time you go over the limit...you get banned from Comcast's network for a year! -_^
Now, before you tell me it's my fault, I'll say...ok, it is.. I put in a limiter to cap my torrent uploads at 100GB/mo, but unfortunately my math was off, as I found out last night. Instead of 30kBps (100GB/mo), I had it set to 300kBps (1TB/mo). ..I'm guessing that's what put me over...
So, yeah, no warning, no "if you go over again you get banned for a year", not even any notice that my account got deleted, just...no service. I figured I just had to call them up again and get it turned back on...imagine my surprise when I find out that my account is disabled for a year. -_^
Comcast? I am not amused. -_-
On that note, looks like I'll be getting internet at home by tethering off my phone for a while (0.9Mbps up, 0.7Mbps down..yay 3G!). Oh, what's that? T-Mobile doesn't have a transfer limit and doesn't care if I tether? Oh, that's awesome. Too bad an actual ISP couldn't do the same for me...
So tomorrow I'll be mailing off my Comcast modem to one of their distribution centers, and in a week or two I should be getting a check from them, crediting me the balance on my account, and that will be the last of my interactions with Comcast.
Ever.
That's right, congratulations Comcast! You have now permanently lost a paying customer. I will never buy service from Comcast ever again, anywhere, and I will never advise any of my friends to buy their service ever again. I know plenty of people who are unhappy with Comast's service but still keep it because it's faster than DSL and they can't get FiOS. Yesterday I was one of those people. Not anymore. I hereby solemnly swear that Comcast will never again get a single cent of my money, and I will do my best to steer others away from them as well.
