Ok.. not really "boggles" but I thought this was pretty wild. I bought my Camaro 1 year ago today. I went to work, came home, had to go back out and pickup my daughter from work. I get home and park the car for the night, and look down at the odometer.

Just the fact that it was on 7000 exactly 1 year to the day was kind of cool, but when I transferred my insurance over to it when I bought it, one of the questions was "How many miles do you drive in a year?" Guess what my answer was!

I always tell them some crazy low number. I only rack up miles in the winter when I can't bike or walk somewhere though...it's not as much of a lie as they probably suspect.

I wish I drove only 7000 miles a year - I'm sick of being behind the wheel at this point. I usually hit 10-11k in my car alone, along with between 90-150 miles every day for work monday- friday - I figure that puts me somewhere around 40k per year overall....

Ironically this INCREASES the insurance on my personal car - apparently the fact that, in an average year, I get as much driving experience as most "average" drivers get in 4-5 years doesn't make me a lower risk....
I understand that as I'm on the road so much more, the chances of me being in an accident are probably statistically higher, but equally, it can be argued that with my work-personal driving ratio, the chances of that accident being in my personal vehicle are something like 25% which I'd think would bring it back down. I was a bad bad lad and drove for over a decade without a licence - I've only had my licence for 7 years but the fact of the matter is, in those 7 years, I've driven as many miles as most people who have had a licence for closer to 30.....

It's not so much YOUR driving skill and experience... it's the potential for the other idiots to hit you. The more you are out on the street, the more likely you're going to get plowed by the likes of Lindsey Lohan with the micro-dog on her lap, juggling three cell phones and a venti latte with extra sugar.

I went from ~500 miles a year these last few years of college, to ~200 miles a week one week after graduation.

Hitting 7000 on the dot exactly one year after getting the car is pretty cool. That is a feat in itself, but it'd be even cooler if you hit the fraction exactly at zero too!

yeah, i agree colin.... i think it's a really stupid reason to jack it up, especially with the experience and immaculate driving record, why should other idiots be able to force your rates up? i never got that... same with location, and gender... what is next? insurance by race? i think all of it is just plain stupid...

i have put on 18,000 miles in my last year.... 1200 alone was CES 2012.... but think about how much i must actually drive... my work is 5 miles from my house, and school is 8 one way.... so try to imagine how much of that driving is for just fun...

so what if i like driving crazy, my record is still clean.... for now.

Thats awesome! Not many good roads to drive here in the Congo so I've only driven 6000 miles in the past 22 months.

I put about 10k a year on my daily. Sucks. I try to split it up between cars, but I drive a lot.
