A couple of years ago, Lamborghini gave the Italian Police a pair of Lamborghini Gallardo's, which have been used since for hi speed chases etc as well as transporting organs (they have fridges built into the cars - somewhere!)

The other day, ironically on the way back from transporting two officers who had been talking to students about road safety, a Seat Ibiza with a less than attentive driver pulled out of a gas station and clipped one of them. I'm guessing they were doing some speed at the time as this is the result...

The car went into a pair of parked cars hard enough that one of the parked cars ended up on the Lambo's roof.... The car is totalled and the two officers recieved minor injuries.

I really wouldn't want to see the Seat drivers insurance renewal with a $200,000+ claim going in....

Honestly, I'm not surprised. I've seen the way traffic flows in a lot of other countries. Many have no traffic laws at all...
I am surprised, however, that there isn't more damage to the Lambo...they were cruising, but not low-altitude-flying.

There's a bit of controversy about this, apparently a lot of witnesses say the police were messing around in the supercar and lost control. Naturally, if you were a cop you'd try and blame the other guy, especially if you've just written off such an expensive car...

I have wanted a lambo since I was old enough to know what cars were (yep...I was one of those 80's kids with countach models and posters instead of bikini-clad women LOL) but I seriously doubt I'll ever be able to afford a real one, much less a new one. It thus causes me much pain to see some idiot who's wrecked one... ESPECIALLY a freebie...

actually, assuming that a diablo, murcielago, and/or gallardo (not to mention the reventon) aren't affordable, my next choice (and heck, maybe even against the lambos it'd be my first choice) is a Factory 5 GTM. IMHO, ultra gorgeous car. Just google it. You won't be disappointed. Downsides? it's a kit car. kit only costs $20,000 or so, which is a great deal IF you have the know-how and tools and time to build it. And the $$ for the necessary parts (corvette engine usually, porsche tranny, etc) to finish it. Buying a turnkey (already assembled) typically hits almost $100,000. ok. I gotta post a pic. Anyway, I ain't got none of the skills necessary to pull off a build, but it sure is pretty.
